GOP Senate Candidate: New Deal Had ‘Much in Common with Mussolini’s Fascism’

I’ve been fascinated by the rise of Chuck DeVore, a Republican state assemblyman from California whose grassroots campaign against Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) — and against brand-new Republican candidate Carly Fiorina — has transformed the Republican primary from a coronation to a neck-and-neck battle between conservative activists and GOP leaders. When I interviewed DeVore in [...]

Michael Steele on Christie Win

More end zone dancing from the Republican National Committee chairman:
“Tonight, Chris Christie exceeded all expectations by charging to victory in the heart of Democrat country.  I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to Chris on becoming New Jersey’s next governor and in a special way I congratulate Kim Guadagno on becoming New Jersey’s first [...]

Christie Wins in New Jersey

On MSNBC just now, Larry O’Donnell announced that NBC is calling the New Jersey governor’s race for Republican Chris Christie. With 74 percent of the votes counted, Christie leads 50 percent to Gov. Jon Corzine’s (D) 44 percent, with 5 percent for Independent Chris Daggett.
Update: The Associated Press has also declared Christie the winner.

McDonnell Wins Virginia Governor’s Race

The New York Times reports that Republican Bob McDonnell rode to an easy victory in the Virginia gubernatorial race Tuesday, based on exit polls.

Conservatives Ready to Claim Election Day Victory

“This is a state that Democrats said was going blue, or least purple,” said Grover Norquist, the president of Americans for Tax Reform, on Virginia. “How do they explain it if they lose?”

NJ-Gov: Is Corzine Winning?

I’m hearing some smart Republican pushback to today’s Quinnipiac Poll – given its record in the state, one of the more credible surveys — showing Gov. Jon Corzine (D-N.J.) pulling out of a year-long rut and leading Republican candidate Chris Christie by five points.
The main Republican critique of the poll, which contradicts Public Policy Polling [...]

NJ-Gov: Corzine in the Lead

The new Rutgers-Eagleton poll for New Jersey’s gubernatorial race piles more bad news onto the campaign of Republican candidate Chris Christie, seen just a few months back as the all-but-certain next governor of the state. The topline numbers are bad enough: Christie trails Gov. Jon Corzine (D-N.J.) by three points, 39 percent to 36 percent, [...]

Democrats Looking Like Losers in Virginia

The new Public Policy Polling survey of Virginia has two pieces of bad news for Democrats. The obvious one: In the gubernatorial race, State Sen. Creigh Deeds (D) is lagging 14 points behind Republican candidate Bob McDonnell, the state’s former attorney general. The worse news:
The 5% of John McCain’s voters planning to vote for Deeds [...]

Blago Aide Pleads Guilty to Wire Fraud

You may have thought that you had heard the last of him after his appearance on “The View,” but it looks like Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich is back in the news. Today, his former chief of staff, John Harris, pleaded guilty to one count of wire fraud, thus implicating his former boss in the pay-to-play [...]

Governor Coleman!

Josh Kraushaar writes the umpteenth appraisal of former Sen. Norm Coleman’s (R-Minn.) chances for a political comeback:
The conventional wisdom, fueled by an AP report today, is that he’d be a logical candidate and likely front-runner to succeed Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R-Minn.) in the governor’s mansion.
I wrote much of this back in June, but it hasn’t [...]
