This just in: Gilbert Gallegos, a spokesman for New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson (D), gave the following statement to TWI’s sister site, The New Mexico Independent, expressing the governor’s support for his former chief of staff, Dave Contarino.

Who’s Tonya Harding Now?

By David Weigel 1/5/09 7:10 AM

Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.)* is promising to sue for another recount if, as expected, Al Franken is declared the winner of Minnesota’s Senate race this week. Republicans are promising to back Coleman by filibustering any attempt to seat Franken.
When did this Republican love for extended recounts start? Sometime after the 2000 elections, probably. Back then [...]

Bring Boring Back

By Matthew DeLong 12/12/08 3:03 PM

In the wake of the Senate’s failure to pass the bailout for the “Big Three” automakers due to a threatened Republican filibuster, I’d like to expand on an excellent point made by Josh Marshall over at TPM.
What I do think makes sense is for the majority to actually require the minority to filibuster — as [...]

By Mike Lillis 11/20/08 3:03 PM

Democratic leaders, conceding that their efforts to bail out America’s automakers stand no chance in Congress this week, are extending a final opportunity to the Big Three: Submit specific plans for getting the companies back on track and repaying the taxpayers, they offered, and Congress will return to Washington in December to consider legislation.

By Mike Lillis 11/7/08 12:45 AM

Fueled by their congressional victories in 2006, House Democratic leaders moved bills on renewable energy, health insurance for children and an economic stimulus package — only to run into a wall of GOP opposition in the Senate and presidential vetoes. But Obama’s election could tear down that wall.

Franken Won’t Concede

By Jefferson Morley 11/5/08 11:28 AM

Our friends at MnIndy have the story of one key Senate race that is not over.
The most expensive Senate race in Minnesota history looks like it may also end up its closest.
With all precincts reporting, and nearly 3 million ballots counted, Sen. Norm Coleman eked out a minuscule 727-vote victory over Al Franken, according to [...]

By Ari Melber 10/31/08 10:15 AM

Sen. Barack Obama granted an exclusive interview to MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow on Thursday night, huddling with the popular new prime time host in an appearance that’s sure to fire up plenty of Obama’s supporters.

Obama Deploys Robot to Fight Ayers Attack (Video)

By Ari Melber 10/31/08 6:01 AM

Maybe there’s too much caffeine coursing through the Obama campaign’s new media department. Or maybe they’ve just had it with Sen. John McCain’s robocalls about Bill Ayers.
The latest item on Sen. Barack Obama’s official YouTube channel is a wacky, dorky, irreverent video titled, really, “Robots Attack!”
Wonder why they didn’t use this in the prime-time [...]
