The conservative watchdog group Accuracy in Media is holding a 40th anniversary conference at Washington’s Omni Shoreham hotel today, with speakers including Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Tex.), National Review’s Jonah Goldberg, and Hans van Spakovsky. A revealing morning panel introduced conservatives to Trevor Loudon, whose New Zeal blog has become a source for stories linking the White House to radicals. In his speech, Loudon connected the dots between George Soros, elements of the Communist Party and the Obama administration.

“The reason the White House is going after Fox News is that they are, or were, on their trail,” said AIM’s Cliff Kincaid, arguing that Fox had been informed by Loudon’s research.

During the Q&A, however, it was clear that AIM members wanted Kincaid and Loudon to go further. One woman informed them that she’d traveled to Kenya last year and that multiple Kenyans offered her a guided tour of “Obama’s birthplace.” Loudon mostly blew the question off.

“The Kenya birth situation is a very controversial one and I can’t say either way,” he said. “I’m sure the tours are a lucrative business for some people.”

Kincaid went a little further. “I don’t know the ultimate truth about where he was born,” he said. “All I have done through Accuracy in Media — I’ve released a copy of my own birth certificate.” He went through all of the information included on there that wasn’t included on Obama’s “certification of birth, or whatever they call it.”

Rather famously, Kincaid caused a little heartburn at CPAC 2009 by telling attendees of the conservative conference that “at least in the 1980s we knew the president was born in the United States.”

“I know it’s a controversial topic,” said Kincaid this morning, “but we at AIM stick to what we can prove.”

The Accuracy in Media editor, who got in some trouble for comments he made at the Conservative Political Action Conference about President Obama’s citizenship, digs in a little deeper in a fundraising appeal.

As an investigative journalist myself, I cannot say with confidence that I am satisfied that the “evidence” proves that Obama was born in Hawaii. I was always suspicious, especially after a copy of his alleged birth certificate first surfaced on the website of the far-left Daily Kos. That is the site that falsely claimed that Sarah Palin had faked her last pregnancy.

That’s awfully misleading—a DailyKos diarist posted about this, he/she drew mostly negative comments, and the diary was pulled down.

A group calling itself FactCheck.org claimed to have seen Obama’s real birth certificate, but I don’t know why we should trust them. This FactCheck.org defended Obama’s misleading campaign ads about his upbringing. Those ads claimed that he was raised mostly by his grandparents, when we know that Frank Marshall Davis was his mentor for 10 years of his young life. Davis, who was black, had been picked by his grandfather, who was white, to be a father-figure.

As a trained investigative journalist, Kincaid must know something about the difference between “mentors” and “people who raised you” than we do.

Sadly, I missed this moment from the CPAC main stage, from Cliff Kincaid of Accuracy in Media:

At least in the 1980s, we knew that our president was born in the United States.

Ironically, I missed this because I had run into Jerome Corsi, author of The Obama Nation and a proponent of alternative (i.e. wrong) theories of where President Obama was born. I asked Corsi if he was still investigating this.

It continues to be an issue, and the Obama administration thinks it can keep it under the rug, and that the Supreme Court will continue to ignore it. A couple members of the military have now joined suits on the argument that, as commander-in-chief, he needs to have met the Constitutional arguments to be president. It’s a really a pretty simple issue. I have investigated and looked into the issue that Obama may have been born outside the United States, in Kenya, but I don’t know what’s on the birth certificate. I just know that politicians who refuse to release primary documents are hiding something. It may be a deep secret about his parentage.

Corsi’s investigation has included some widely challenged reporting on alleged contact between Obama and Rail Odinga, the prime minister of Kenya — which he stands by — and he said he was still working the story. After we spoke, he went across the hall to sign copies of his book.
