MSNBC Analyst Goes Deep Into Birtherism

Bo Dietl, an MSNBC analyst and Chairman of the New York State Security Guard Advisory Council (appointed by former Gov. George Pataki), unleashed a disturbing, ill-informed rant about President Obama’s citizenship during an interview today with Don Imus.
It’s important to stop and note that Dietl, while over-the-top, is not a political nobody.

Poll: One-Third of Tennesseans Think Obama Is Muslim or Foreign-Born

One reason that a ludicrous figure like Orly Taitz can still get booked for TV interviews — poll after poll shows a substantial number of Americans buying into birther conspiracies. Today it’s an MTSU poll in Tennessee, one of President Obama’s worst states in both the 2008 primary and general election. The survey found thirty-four [...]

Orly Taitz Keeps Digging

Justin Elliott talks with the fast-imploding “queen of the birthers” about her $20,000 fine, which she is refusing to pay:
“Are you kidding? Of course not,” she said, asked whether she planned to send a check. “This is a form of intimidation.”
Instead, she plans to file yet another written response (though it’s unclear whether the court [...]

Orly Taitz Sanctioned for $20,000

The “Birther queen” has been slapped with a five-figure fine for “wasting the judicial resources” of the Middle District of Georgia, where she’d filed one of her numerous lawsuits demanding that President Obama prove his citizenship before deploying soldiers to Iraq and Afghanistan. The judgment, which calls Taitz’s case and tactics “delusional”:
Counsel Orly Taitz is [...]

Alan Keyes: My Birther Lawsuit Will Proceed

The perennial presidential candidate blogs that his quest to overturn the results of the 2008 election — which he surely would have won had Barack Obama had to answer questions about his citizenship — will continue, his lawsuit having not been dismissed.
I just received a call from Orly Taitz, my attorney in the case seeking [...]

The Washington Post Botches It on Orly Taitz

Going back over that Liza Mundy profile of Orly Taitz, I think she actually missed an important detail about Taitz’s arguments, as well as missing the only reason to report on her, beyond freakwatching. First, the argument Mundy missed.
She has developed a scenario whereby Obama’s American mother gave birth in Kenya, his father’s native country, [...]

The Continuing Ballad of Orly Taitz

It’s a day of mixed news for the Pied Piper of the “birther” movement. The bad news: Taitz’s case, Keyes v. Obama, got a hearing in Santa Ana, an event that had been built up on WorldNetDaily and other far-right sites as a possible turning point in the battle against the president. According to liveblogs [...]

Rep. Trent Franks: Obama Should Release Long-Form Birth Certificate

Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) accidentally walked into the world of “birther” conspiracy theories last month, when a local newspaper seemed to report that Franks was considering a lawsuit against the president. Franks cleared the matter up immediately: He had merely considered suing for proof of the president’s citizenship before and after the 2008 election, but [...]

Fear of Fascism, ‘Gay Agenda’ Dominates Conservative Kickoff for Midterm Elections

According to Phyllis Schlafly, founder of the Eagle Forum, the conference drew its largest crowd in 38 years, signaling a surge of grass-roots enthusiasm for 2010.

The Birthermercial

Justin Elliot has the video and story behind LivePrayer.com’s infomercial “Where Was President Obama Born?”
Besides being a forum for prayer requests, LivePrayer.com features the Birther infomercial and a “False Hope” program advertised with a picture of Obama crudely photoshopped next to Hitler. [Christian minister and infomercial host Bill] Keller has called Islam a “false religion [...]
