Justice Stevens to Retire?

There’s speculation that 89-year-old Justice John Paul Stevens, the liberal stalwart on the court, may soon announce his retirement.  Justice Stevens has reportedly hired only one law clerk for the term starting in October 2010. Usually, justices hire four.

A Third GOP Senator Comes Out Against Sotomayor

Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kans.) has announced that he will vote against Sonia Sotomayor’s nomination to the Supreme Court, making him the third senator to come out against Sotomayor, reports Congressional Quarterly.

Brownback joins Sens. Pat Roberts (R-Kans.) and James Inhofe (R-Okla.) in an anti-Sotomayor Dust Bowl trio.
