Bill Kristol vs. Dede Scozzafava

OK, this is getting good. The campaign of Dede Scozzafava, the moderate Republican candidate in the NY-23 special election, has blundered into an all-out war with The Weekly Standard. First, reporter John McCormack asked Scozzafava a series of questions that irritated her and inspired her to call the cops to check on him. Then, a [...]

This Week’s Supervillain

It’s looking like it’ll be interim White House Communications Director Anita Dunn — who came under fire from Fox News host Glenn Beck last week for quoting Mao Zedong in a speech earlier this year — again taking some of the heat off of “safe schools czar” Kevin Jennings. Laura Ingraham opened her agenda-setting radio [...]

Technorati Ranks TWI No. 1 U.S. Politics News Site

Via The Minnesota Independent, shortly after the Web-tracking site Technorati revamped its algorithm for ranking blogs and other Websites, The Washington Independent now ranks as Technorati’s No. 1 U.S. Politics News Site. TWI also ranks No. 4 on the list of U.S. Politics Sites, which combines blogs and news sites.

CNN Rejects ‘Drop Dobbs’ Ad

Immigrants’ advocates and the liberal media watchdog group Media Matters are so angry that CNN plans to run a four-hour special called “Latinos in America” next week without mentioning the role of CNN anchor Lou Dobbs in fomenting hatred of Latinos that they raised $16,000 to create and run an ad during the show calling [...]

Republican Family Feud

TWI’s David Weigel took to MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” last night to talk about his reporting on the Tea Party-spurred divisions that are emerging within the GOP. Video after the jump.

Julian Sanchez Essentially Nukes Fox News on the PATRIOT Act

There is nothing I could possibly add to this amazing video fact-check of the wild inaccuracies that Fox peppers its PATRIOT Act report with, produced by my friend Julian Sanchez of the Cato Institute.
Video after the jump:

The Washington Post Botches It on Orly Taitz

Going back over that Liza Mundy profile of Orly Taitz, I think she actually missed an important detail about Taitz’s arguments, as well as missing the only reason to report on her, beyond freakwatching. First, the argument Mundy missed.
She has developed a scenario whereby Obama’s American mother gave birth in Kenya, his father’s native country, [...]

Weigel, the Olympics, Astroturfing and More on ‘The Rachel Maddow Show’

TWI’s David Weigel went on MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” last night to talk about his reporting on Americans for Prosperity’s “Defending the American Dream” conference this past weekend in Washington. Video after the jump.

Chicago Eliminated From 2016 Olympic Field

Just about every news organization out there is reporting that Chicago has been eliminated in the first round of voting as a possible host for the 2016 Olympic Games, despite President Obama’s high-profile lobbying effort to bring the games to his hometown. Drudge, of course, is touting the news in typical patriotic fashion:

Massachusetts Senate Candidate Advertises on Newsmax.com ‘Coup’ Article

TPM has been all over the bizarre John Perry “military coup against Obama” column at Newsmax.com–an incredibly popular conservative site, as I discovered in my story on WorldNetDaily. The liberal BlueMassGroup blog has an interesting wrinkle. Scott Brown, the credible GOP candidate for the open Massachusetts U.S. Senate seat, has been running ads on Newsmax.com. [...]
