Salazar Calls for Improved Oil Spill Technology
Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at 1:50 pm
Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said today that it’s important to work closely with industry, scientists and other stakeholders to improve the technology used to respond to oil spills.
Speaking at a meeting on deepwater oil drilling blowout containment today, Salazar said, according to his prepared remarks:
To achieve our objective of safer offshore energy production, we must eliminate the gap between the technology and knowledge that allows oil and gas companies to tap reserves beneath 5,000 feet of water – and the technologies and strategies that allow us to deal with emergencies at those depths.
Salazar also said the meeting would help shape upcoming Interior Department regulations on offshore drilling.
