Most Americans Are Concerned About Pipeline Safety

A new Rasmussen poll finds that 56 percent of Americans are concerned about natural gas pipeline safety after a massive pipeline explosion in San Bruno, Calif., killed at least four people and damaged dozens of homes. About 22 percent of Americans say they are “very concerned” about natural gas pipelines. The survey also finds that 41 percent of Americans aren’t concerned and 10 percent are not concerned at all.
But the poll also shows that Americans think natural gas delivery systems are safer in private hands than they would be as a government-run enterprise. According to Rasmussen:
Just 12 percent say delivery of natural gas would be safer if handled by the government rather than by private utility companies. A sizable 68 percent say it’s safer handled by private utilities as is currently the case. Twenty percent (20%) are not sure which would be better.
