Transocean Pushes Back Against BP Spill Report
Wednesday, September 08, 2010 at 11:00 am
The investigation into the oil spill BP released today is already causing waves. In the report, BP spread the blame for the spill among “multiple companies, work teams and circumstances.”
Now Transocean, which owned the Deepwater Horizon rig, says BP is dodging responsibility for the spill.
The Hill got this statement from a Transocean spokesperson:
This is a self-serving report that attempts to conceal the critical factor that set the stage for the Macondo incident: BP’s fatally flawed well design. In both its design and construction, BP made a series of cost-saving decisions that increased risk — in some cases, severely.

Umm… So the industry as a whole is miss-managed and cutting corners left and right? Not an encouraging report.

When I go to a restaurant and get bad service, I don't blame the waiter; when I get bad food, I don't blame the cook. Responsibility belongs with management. This self-serving report from BP aims to spread the liability around. Let them pay the bill, then collect from their contractors, if they can.
