Shiffrin: Some Techniques Are ‘Relatively Benign’

Just when Shiffrin appears like a human being, he goes back to Rumsfeld-lackey mode. Some of these techniques are “relatively benign,” he told Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) “Some don’t work. The colonel mentioned good-cop-bad-cop.”  Um, waterboarding? Stress positions? Sleep deprivation?

“Yes, I never heard of waterboarding until I retired,” he explained. “I did not at any time participate in discussion of specific harsh techniques.” Why, how convenient!

I should also mention: Marcy Wheeler has some excellent liveblogging at her Firedoglake blog.
