Pattern of Violations at Mariner Energy Emerging

Mariner Energy, the company that owns the oil rig that exploded today in the Gulf of Mexico, has been linked to seven violations and was involved in a number of accidents, The Houston Chronicle reports. At the same time, Lindsay Beyerstein at Big Think reports that Mariner Energy and Apache Energy, the company that just bought Mariner, paid $745,000 in fines this year.
