Rick Scott’s Opposition to Park 51 Project (Updated)
Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 1:36 pm
In the latest indication that the fight over the Park 51 project will continue to be a campaign issue for many Republicans, Rick Scott’s staff says his opposition to the project was a key factor in his victory over Attorney General Bill McCollum in Tuesday’s Republican gubernatorial primary in Florida.
Our sister-site, The Florida Independent, reports:
In a post titled “Lessons for Conservatives From the Rick Scott Campaign,” Scott’s staff lays out its views on why the campaign triumphed over Attorney General Bill McCollum Tuesday night, and specifically highlights comments Scott made about Park51, the proposed Muslim community center that the Scott camp calls the “Ground Zero mosque.”
A Scott ad posted just last week and misleadingly titled “Obama’s Mosque” featured Scott dismissing President Obama’s calls for “tolerance” in the debate over Park51, and built upon rhetoric Scott used earlier at a Sean Hannity Freedom Tour event. “Muslim fanatics murdered thousands of Americans that day, yards from where they want to build this mosque,” he told an Orlando crowd. “The leader of this mosque will not admit that Muslim extremists use terror tactics. The truth: This is a slap in the face for every fallen American.”
UPDATE: The Scott campaign tells The Florida Independent its staff didn’t write the “Lessons for Conservatives” post. TFI writes, “Turns out the post in question, originally credited on the Scott site just to “Campaign Staff,” was a reprint of a column penned by Red State blogger Erick Erickson. Scott staffers have updated the post to clarify the source. You can read Erickson’s original column here.”

Scott is a dangerous idiot, he cares nothing for the United States just his wallet. Voters should be ashamed.

Florida Republicans have nominated an executive whose company defrauded Medicare. They have nominated another super-rich man, and a man who claims to represent the “common man” and whose supporters rail against the “establishment” in Washington. when Florida sees the errors of their ways, the hypocritical stance they take in nominating this cur, then maybe we can think about what we really can do to come together and approach long term problems. It won't happen when hypocrites like Scott come along and try to take over the government. Too much sun in the eyes of Floridians. God help us all….
