Renewable Industry Sees New Chance for RES in Reid Energy/Spill Bill

A key renewable energy industry source says it is “very likely” that the industry will renew its push to include a renewable energy standard in Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s (D-Nev.) energy and oil spill response bill. Reid announced yesterday that he won’t bring the bill to the floor before the August recess. That means the bill will come up for a vote in September at the earliest, but pre-midterm jitters could delay a vote until next year.

The renewable energy industry has for weeks been aggressively lobbying key senators to include a renewables mandate in the bill, but Reid has consistently said he doesn’t have 60 votes for the provision.

Attaching RES onto legislation regarding the oil spill makes perfect sense. We woke up to our addiction with fossil fuels as a nation and I think its a no brainer to include renewables in the answer.
