McConnell Wants a Review of the 14th Amendment
Tuesday, August 03, 2010 at 8:37 am
More Republicans voiced support for a possible change to the 14th Amendment to remove automatic citizenship for children born in the U.S. to illegal immigrants. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Monday that he supports a review of the 14th Amendment, which Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said last week he wants to repeal.
The Hill had more details from an interview with McConnell:
McConnell stopped short of echoing Graham’s call for repeal of the amendment.
“I think we ought to take a look at it — hold hearings, listen to the experts on it,” McConnell said. “I haven’t made a final decision about it, but that’s something that we clearly need to look at. Regardless of how you feel about the various aspects of immigration reform, I don’t think anybody thinks that’s something they’re comfortable with.”
Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) also recently said he supports a review.
It’s unclear whether these statements are more than political posturing. As I wrote last week, constitutional amendments require far more support than Graham’s effort is likely to find — two-thirds of Congress and three-quarters of state legislatures. It seems more likely the senators hope to earn political points for appearing to do something tough to combat illegal immigration, even if they fail to achieve any sort of real change.

The Democratic party and Obama Adm are not keeping their promises to their constituents. My needs are not being addressed, so I will vote GOP on this issue. I lived in Guadalajara for 3 years—the most beautiful city in climate and natural beauty and experienced the most corrupt governments vertically, also RCC, also evangelical religions, unions, and society in general.
Mexican aphorism: 'in order to get ahead, TAKE advantage of someone'. Their culture is totally corrupt across all institutions. They do not leave those sensibilities at the border when they cross as drug dealing when unable to find a job, human trafficking and infantil prostitucion', kidnappings, car theft, rape and more rape.
17th to mid-20th century immigration is not the same as what i happening to the USA.
Why should a well educated immigrant with needed skills be passed over following the rules for a gardener or drug incorporator or mule OFTEN times replacing an out of work hispanic from Mexico or failed states like Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador or El Caribe basin who gets here ILLEGALLY?
