Hayward to Step Down, American to Take Over BP

It looks like BP’s embattled CEO, Tony Hayward, will be stepping down. And he’ll probably be replaced by Robert Dudley, who would be the first American to take over as CEO of BP.

The Washington Post reports:

On Monday, BP’s board is expected to announce that Hayward, 53, will step down on Oct. 1. The departure, say people close to the company, will be his decision as much as the board’s. Hayward, a geologist who has spent his entire career working for BP, is said to recognize that he has become a liability as the company tries to move forward.

Dudley, who is currently overseeing the oil spill response for BP, will likely be chosen to take over for Hayward. The Post did a nice profile of Dudley last month.
