Goodwin Sworn In, Votes in Favor of Unemployment Benefits Extension
Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 2:29 pm
Sen. Carte Goodwin (D-W.Va.) was sworn in about half an hour ago by Vice President Biden. At 36, he is the youngest member of Senate. The late Sen. Robert Byrd (D), his predecessor and 56 years his senior, was the oldest member of the body at the time of his death June 28.
With Goodwin’s support, the Senate passed cloture on the unemployment benefits extension bill shortly after his swearing-in. When Goodwin cast his vote in favor of the bill, applause broke out in the chamber.

Well folks looks like it passed 60-40.. First wanted to say thanks to the Dems for finally getting something done.. Course the tier 5 people still get screwed. Wanted to say a BIG F!!k YOU to all those Repubs who voted no, may they all burn in hell.. It's a real shame that not every single bill that calls for sending billions to other countries dont have to undergo the same scrutiny that the unemployment extension had to undergo.. Another shame to all the Americans who enjoyed bashing and kicking their fellow American.. Karma is a B!tch and someday you may lose your job and be in this position.. Are you going to sit there and not apply for your unemployment since all you did was bash us.. Please, I think not you will be the first in line for your unemployment. Take your heads out of ur as!ess for 1 second.. Do you not realize their are military vets that fought for you as! and you sit here and bash them because of a criminal government that outsourced millions of jobs so they can put millions into their pockets.. SHAME ON EVERY SINGLE 1 OF YOU…
For Heavens sake, we just gave Pakistan 7.5 billion dollars.. That adds to the deficit but I dont hear the emplyed who are bashing the unemployed complaining about this adding to the deficit.. How about the 650 BILLION in tax cuts for the richest?? That was not paid for, but I dont hear the repubs or you complain about it adding to the deficit.. Get rid of Nafta and Cafta and the jobs will return here.. Make trade with other countries and jobs will be back.. Make Tarrifs “fair” and tax companies that leave here apporpriately.. Not the “pennies” they pay now..

vince comello,
I'm one of those vets who you speak of, and while I'm now retired, I fight for the American people, still. This obstructionism and intransigence on the part of Republicans is shameful to their party. They will pay for it in November, and 2012 if they don't get in line with the American people.
I was sent chasing my tail looking for WMD's in Iraq. Know what? Didn't find any. So all that money spent was for nothing. Infrastructure suffered here, in the meantime.
Republicans had no compunction about green-lighting things they knew weren't paid for, yet cry foul as loud as they can about DESPERATELY needed benefits to AMERICANS!
I'm an activist now, and I'll be damned if they do this sort of thing again.
November will be payback time for those who didn't side with the American worker.

Well,
I have barely enough money to pay my light and water bill, and in august I may just say Eff It and walk away from the house.
I am luckier that most, My mom passed in Dec 08 and I 'inherited' the house, I have 5 sibs that have not offered one bit of support- emotional or otherwise.
Yet they will be there when it comes time to go to probate and get the money they “deserve”.
Me?
I don't know what I will do until then. I have spent all my money trying to keep the house going and not with no Tier V things look bleak.
God has always provided for me, now?
I am to ashamed to ask for anything more.
Thanks barack and thank you congress and the senate…
Morons.

Keep it going! Let as many as you can know who works for them!
BTW, those two Senators from Maine are either scared for their jobs, or they are two of a dying breed-centrist Republicans.

The Grand Obstructionist Party has not triumphed…yet again! We need to keep the pressure on to continue on the path that President Obama has laid out which will get us out of the mess the GOP/Bush got us into!

No problem. Seems I and my boys had it better than everyone back here. We appreciated the support, and thank you all, yet you folk had to endure some real crappy conditions. THAT'S why I'm activist.
Some of my boys can't find jobs, either.
It's Reagan “voodoo” economics got us here, and Republicans want more of it. They whine and moan about deficits, but won't pay for anything, allowing corporations to set wage limits so the American worker can't get what he or she is worth, so they “outsource” those jobs to foreign countries anyway, because it isn't happening fast enough.
Remember “The Grapes of Wrath?” THAT'S what the Republicans want. So do the baggers. Americans working their fingers to the bone for pennies a day.
Horses**t. I will fight this till the day I die.
