Reid Working With Republican Caucus to Move UI Bill

The House is currently voting to move a standalone unemployment insurance bill, and I’ll update when they are done.

But encouraging news from the Senate side as well for unemployed Americans looking for a benefits extension. A Senate Democratic leadership aide says Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is working with members of the Republican caucus and hopes to move a standalone bill this week, possibly Sen. Debbie Stabenow’s (D-Mich.) or possibly another provision — before the July 4 recess.

An account I saw earlier today said they would try to move today under expedited rule which required the 2/3 but that if that failed they would then move under regular order in a couple of days which would require only a simple majority.

Guess it's back to the drawing board. The vote in the House could not reach 2/3 and as such, failed. Not sure why it was brought up under a suspension of rules, requiring such a high threshold. Oh well. Now what for the millions of unemployed waiting?

Another week seems to be passing us by.

At the end of this week, the population of Arlington TX will be without UI Benefits. Each week roughly another city the size of Arlington TX will fall off the rolls for UI.

By the time Congress gets back from it’s July break, roughly the population of Houston TX will be without benefits.

This argument is over the 60% of pay that the unemployed are now living off of. That works out to an average of 200-300 dollars per week for the unemployed to live on. All of this is being held up by our elected officials that make roughly $3400 per week of taxpayer funded income. This is base pay, and does not include all those sweet little perks they get, like free health care nor the sweetheart deal they have for retirement.. I would submit that those that serve in the senate are millionaires in their own right and don’t need their paychecks like the unemployed do.

How can a group of people making so much money even begin to comprehend what someone living on a few hundred a week is going through? How can they represent those of us that have worked for so long and so hard but now we have to watch as everyone else is helped, with free needles, free food, free cell phones, but those of us that have paid into the system for so many years are thrown under the bus. All for political gain. On both sides.

I am disgusted.

so does anyone know if it will be voted on again before the reccess? or if it can be pushed for a simple majority vote? It's pointless for me to comment on the rich scum that vote it down b/c the 1.2 million that are probably searching for an answer this week are in the same boat feeling the same way…I am sorry we are all in this boat

Civillian Conservation Corp: We need guaranteed employment. I will do anything that a law abiding citizen would do to earn money. Imagine a corp of 2 million. Engineers, Carpenters, Truck drivers, you name it the talent is unemployed and desperate for solutions.

I am disgusted, as well. We are suffering greatly all because these stupid jerks are using unemployment for THEIR POLITICAL GAIN. It just sickens me that children are going without food, etc. I hope every single one of them has to call in weekly for their unemployment checks one day…..and remember, they will answer to God.

The entire population for the state of Idaho is less than the number of people who have lost their benifits since Crapo, Risch, Lieberman, and Nelson found it in their hearts to support billions to wall street but toods to main street.

You could say: Pay for the dang bill with the unused stimulus money you selfish democrats. Republicans want to use the money that's there, democrats want to charge more. There is $684 billion unused out of the 787 billion stimulus money. They are all selfish professional liers.

Trillions of dollars to bail out criminal banksters. Trillions more for 2 illegal wars. Billions to other countries. But when hardworking, responsible taxpayers,
– victimized by a corrupted, destroyed economy — need help, during the most challenging period of their lives, WE CAN'T AFFORD IT.

Lesson learned: I will do EVERYTHING I can, no matter what it takes and how long, to make certain I NEVER depend on government for ANYTHING. I will never allow my life to be yanked around by incompetent, corrupt politicians again.

my 5 yr old son & i have a 10 day eviction notice. we have absolutely nowhere to go, penniless. he's got food but i'm starving. no gas money for the car that got repoed. i hopelessly walk 5 miles with him in the stroller to use the computer at the library every day, and every day it seems i'm more and more fuct. i'm a very skilled worker, at all trades, but there are no jobs here… i've never asked for help in my life and now i'm almost at the corner begging.. whats next? will i have to give my son, my reason for living, up to foster care or something? i've lost everything this year, our home was all thats left.. it'll be gone in 8 more days.. but who the fuck cares, right? i've held the same job for 8+ years, but i don't deserve unemployment, i don't deserve any help.. when i look in my babys eyes my heart is just screaming, burning, sick.. i love him more than i ever could have imagined & the thought of giving him up is killing me, but what options do i have? i've already sold everything i had, for mere pennies… ???? i am all he has, the one person he depends on and i am failing him…

Shudell666, I truly wish the best for you.

You sound like a handy guy. Maybe you've thought of this already, but how about posting for handy man services around your area? People aren't buying new things in this economy — they want to fix and keep what they have. That's what a brother of mine is doing, and he's busy.
Besides posting ads on bulletin boards around town, you can place free ads in Craigslist.com (or look for ads of people looking for handy man workers). If you need a bulletin board flyer designed, let me know — I'll design one for you for free (I'm a graphic designer — looking for work, too). May God bless you and your son with abundance.
I'll check back here.

Shudell666,

What state do you live in? I'm hoping I can help.

I know a few people that need a handyman. I know it's not steady or dependable as something you can budget on, but maybe enough to keep the wolf away from the door until the Senate decides on something. The DOL will deduct a portion of your part time earnings from your UI check until you find something steady and full time.
I'll check back to this site, too.

Shuddell666,
It occurred to me that you might not know that people replied to your post because they're new posts rather than replies. Please check back to the site and read my post and AzC's post. I'm wondering what state you live in. I'm hoping I can help. I know people who need a handyman, and like I said in my post, I know it's not much. Not enough to be full time or anything you can budget with, but maybe enough to keep the wolf away from the door. The DOL allows self employment or part time work. They deduct a portion of it from your UI benefit, until you find something steady and full time.

Let's not forget….while Congress and HoR are fuckin around with this extension bill, many people are losing their homes, and their livelihoods. Now, you political assholes, how in the hell do you expect anyone to hire us? If we were having trouble finding work when we had homes and power and running water, what the hell are we really gonna do now if we've lost all that. Would you hire the bum on the corner with the sign?
