Obama cannot continue using his Change theme if he continues to move away from strong stands on tough issues. Washington business as usual is his current message and it will get John McCain elected president.

Clarification: Senate holds are a matter of right under Senate Rules: every Senator has a right to be consulted on any bill. While holds have customarily been used for nominations, they are now migrating into more frequent use on ordinary legislation. Their increasing secrecy, seen as a possible abuse of the right,is a matter of concern to many Senators, and there is a bill pending (Wyden, D-OR) to compel disclosure of the Senator placing the hold.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid ignored a similar "secret hold" that Chris Dodd placed on the Senate Intellgence Committee Bill that was passed last February. There is no reason to believe that he has grown a spine, a brain, or a sense of party or ethical fealty in the intervening months.

At this point, I am more furious at the Democrats than the Republicans.

What possible purpose would it serve for the Republicans to pay any heed to the objections of American citizens? The Democratic ("Opposition") leadership has shown absolutely no willingness to do so, and continues to cave in to every demand - money, authority, scented body washes, whatever - that the Republicans have made. It is maddening.

Opposition party my ass.

If Feingold is set against this FISA law, he can put a "secret" hold on it as other Republicans have done to keep things from being voted on.
