22 Days After Congress Cut Unemployment Insurance, Still No Movement

By

It has been 22 days since some unemployment insurance recipients stopped receiving benefits, as the extenders bill — also known as the jobs bill or H.R. 4213 — took considerable time and cuts to make it through the House, and has stalled in the Senate for nearly a month now. To move the bill, senators took out the Medicare provision and passed it separately. They then cut extra Medicaid funding to the states, funding that would have gone to things like domestic violence prevention. As many states are already committed to spending on the program and are loath to make cuts, they will instead cut elsewhere and fire workers, sometimes by the thousands. The bill is still stalled.

In the meantime, 903,000 unemployment insurance recipients have stopped receiving extended federal benefits. The National Employment Law Project has been blasting out one story a day from an unemployed worker facing poverty due to the joblessness crisis and Congressional inaction. Here’s today’s, from a broadcast radio worker laid off 18 months ago in Birmingham, Mich., the state with the second-highest unemployment rate in the country:

I had a radio show in Detroit for 15 1/2 years. I was let go recently due to budget cuts.  When I found out I was going to be let go, I offered to stay for LESS than one-half my pay but I was told even that was too much to satisfy the budget cuts. A few months later, the company hired me back to do a part-time show paying $15.00 an hour for 25 hours a week. When I found out about this opportunity, I was ecstatic.  Although it wasn’t a full-time job, it was income coming in that my family desperately needed to survive. However, this opportunity soon fell through…I was devastated.

I can’t find another job. I send out hundreds of applications a day, no call backs.  Radio stations use voice tracking, which eliminates the need for real human beings.  The full-timers tape the weekend shows so there aren’t even part-time positions anymore. And to add increased strain on my family life, my husband is now unemployed as well. He has an MBA and worked for years as an engineer.

During these past few years, we’ve lost 2 houses; it’s been awful.  Unemployment insurance has helped keep food on the table when I had no clue where my family’s next meal was going to come from…and without the COBRA subsidy, I would have gone this entire time without health coverage. However, with my COBRA subsidy ending in July, I can’t afford health insurance for myself or my family….it’s too expensive.

The impasse has Democrats incensed. Yesterday, for instance, Democratic Sens. Ben Cardin (Md.), Kay Hagan (N.C.) and Bob Casey (Pa.) led a fiery press conference on the matter. “Continued obstruction in the Senate could lead to 20,000 layoffs in Pennsylvania alone and poses a threat to public safety and schools,” Casey said. “Despite majority support, states around the country are facing harmful real world consequences because a minority of senators are blocking funding.” Democratic Sens. Casey, Debbie Stabenow (Mich.), Jeff Merkley (Ore.) and Sheldon Whitehouse (R.I.) argued for immediate passage of the bill on the floor yesterday night. Still, no movement yet. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) hopes to be able to move the bill this week.

I had followed the path to success…I went to college, earned two degrees, was hired as a teacher and worked hard for 12 years. I married (later divorced) and raised 1 child. Then, I lost my job…and have sunk into the deepest hole emotionally, mentally and financially…in spite of HUNDREDS of applications…fro ANY KIND OF JOB…I am nearly 50 and now that my unemployment has run out…i am packing up my house….i guess it will be a short sale for me…in spite of the fact that i had a fixed rate…and put 20 percent down! my house value won't allow me to glean a profit…and i am worrying about where my dog and I will live next. PASS H.R.4213 NOW…PLEASE! I will work at any kind of job…but Illinois has any jobs!

I am unemployed because I blew the whistle on a bad teacher working for the NYC Department of Labor and if that was not bad enough for them to fire me but they also have me on their ineligible list for supposed employee misconduct. Gladly I was able to collect unemployment after winning a hearing and now unemployment has run out for me and I am still unable to find employment, no government assistance and I am seriously considering death as my one and only option. How am I going to pay my rent, utilities, and other basic needs? Congress needs to pass this bill ASAP because I am quite sure that I am not the only one considering wrong doing behind this ridiculousness of our government.

My mistake, I was employed by the NYC Department of Education run by Joel Klein and Bloomberg and not by the Dept of Labor. They fired me after reporting a teacher for hitting a child. Turns out that the Teacher and assistant principal retaliated against me and got me fired by lying and using three children to sign a false statement against me…..

I have a damn BA in MIS and have been a good employee for years.. now I can't find anything.. I'm going to have to resort to stealing.. this is so sad.. but my family will be fed. The last thing I would do is steal, but I'm going to have to to survive for now. I still can't believe I'm in this situation. Went to a great university, graduated with honors, etc.. I'm just sitting here about to cry because I'm going to have to steal for my family to make it.

Please don't resort to stealing to get food! You can qualify for food stamps if you are drawing unemployment. Don't be ashamed. It's there for those who need it while they work on getting back on their feet. The worst thing that can happen is you lose your home, car and credit.

It's disgusting that the senate is making it even more painful to be unemployed. People will lose their homes and medical care and local stores will miss out on business. Is this the way to recovery?

I have been unemployed for 16 months through no fault of my own, my company went bankrupt and shut their doors – a casualty of the economy. I had been gainfully employed for over 20 years prior to that. I have paid my fair share of taxes and never really complained until recently. Here I live in the great state of NY – where unemployment pays a measly $405 a week. Here in downstate NY that doesn't go very far, but its been helping pay for the basics and keeping me out of trouble with the creditors and landlord. I have continually sent out my resume every day for the past 16 months to barely get a phone call or return email. I can honestly count how many interviews or responses I've received on both hands – I'm overqualified or don't have the proper experience, or made too much money in the past, etc, etc. I've heard every excuse as to why they won't hire me or won't call me back, I've also applied to every retail outlet I could again with the same excuses. This $405 a week has been the only saving grace I have, in 2 weeks I will no longer have that unless this extension is passed. After that what am I supposed to do? Who's going to pay for my car payment – well the bank is going to take a hit because they will have one less loan being paid on. Who's going to pay for my student loan? – well the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT will have to eat that because I won't be able to pay that back so that's a hit in their budget. Who's going to pay for the credit card I've been paying off for the past year? – hmmnn another bank will have to take that out of their budget because I won't be able to pay for it – let's see since I'm not eligible for welfare or food stamps because I'm not a single parent & I don't have a family to support I will be a burden on someone else or homeless on the street because without a car I can't get a job – without credit I can't get a job – without a telephone I can't get a job. So Mr & Ms congress person while you decide to cut off the unemployed think about the millions of others out there like me who without our unemployment checks will cost this government and country 10 times what it would have if you would just extend it. Its your fault we are in this situation – so until you can come up with a solution to bring jobs back or find a way to create them – then you need to support us so we can support you! And by the way, since you still tax us on our unemployment benefits, that bill won't be getting paid either since you took them away from us – we won't be able to pay you back. See what goes around comes around – and you will be feeling it in your wallets real soon and in November when we will not forget and vote your sorry assses out of office.

I totally agree they should extend it and its needed, but dont spread lies! In New York State you CAN get food stamps if you are a single person, single person with kids or even a married couple with or with out kids. Food stamps is purely income based. You can even own a car and house. As long as your monthly income is under the limits for your family size. Many people on unemployment still qualify for food stamps because in NYS the max benefit a week is only $405 per week ($430 with the stimulus). Please apply for food stamps and do not spread mis information so others dont apply for food stamps.

This is absolutley ridiculous. I found out three days ago that my unemployment had been cut off. I've filled out application after aplication and have heard no responses. They will come and take my bed away from me sometine this week because I was counting on that money, I am down to the bare minimals in food, and my car is in the shop. I can't believe this bill is still being stalled. Do they realize how much unneeded crime this is going to generate. Just because a few asshole republicans won't pass this absolutely necessary bill. What a great country we live in!!! Let the rich get richer and poor get poorer.

If the unemployment extension is not passed, my house will go into foreclosure and I will hoave no place to live. I think I've suffered enough. How can this happen in America. Is the only people that care are the people that are homeless and have no food to eat. I always wanted to beliieve that our government would always be there for the people. I guess nobody cares about us anymore.

How much more do they expect the unemployed to take? Do they want us on our hands and knees pleading for help—will that make them feel more important. They claim they don't want to add more to the deficit for future generations—however even a moron can figure out if parents and grandparents can't get jobs to keep food on the table and roofs over their heads–there will be no future generation!!!! God, what does it take for these people to understand?

While I don't think that crime is the answer to any problem, I agree that this situation will absolutely lead to much higher crime rates all over the USA. If this extension isn't passed immediately, I will begin to lose things like my phone service, internet, apartment, etc…. All the things one depends on while searching for work. I think we should start by robbing Republican Congresspeople of their jobs. Lousy rotten bloodsuckers!!!

Why don't the Senate pass a standalone unemployment extension bill and make one final decision once and for all? Approve or disapprove. And publish the names, addresses and home phone numbers of the scumbags who voted against the bill.

They should realize that the unemployed also has families to feed and provide shelter and clothing. It is not only the unemployed who goes hungry but also their children. It is not only the unemployed who becomes homeless but his children as well. And when a father sees their children hungry, the world becomes a very very dark world and wants to know who are the Senators responsible for the predicament.

EDD has a 'heads up' letter to the public what has happened because of Congress not passing this bill. Ironically, the letter states and suggests to seek help from the welfare dept and log on to Maria Shriver's website, weconnect, to get some ideas of resources. WTF, I tried to go on the site and it's 'not found', guess it does not exist any longer, or under construction (perfect timing). And so what is the Welfare Dept. going to do, hand me money but 45 days later. The unemployed, jobseekers, struggling survivors, cannot lose their dignity, America has taken everything else……

What's ridiculous is we help other countries when a disaster occurs, but we never help our own. The state of the economy is a disaster that we didn't cause. But, let's spends billions helping other countries when they have a natural disaster. Where are those countries when we need help, and where is our government for the people that pay taxes including unemployment when we were working. Wars line their pockets, but the unemployed doesn't benefit them in anyway an that's all that matters to them is keeping their pockets lined and silver spoons in their mouths. The best thing we can do is vote these people out as they only care about themselves. Why don't we have benefit concerts for the people suffering from unemployment and the crappy economy, and the people who are suffering from the oil spill. We are the World ??…We are America..wake up Congress.

WASHINGTON – As Senate Democrats struggle to find enough votes to extend unemployment insurance and provide states with additional funding, a group in Massachusetts is staging a protest in Senator Scott Brown’s Boston office.

Massachusetts-based advocates for the disabled today started a candle-light vigil outside Brown’s office. They were planning to continue the vigil – from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each weekday — until the US Senate takes action. The group is concerned that, unless the Senate approves new money for states through Medicaid, the budget cuts in Massachusetts will impact

This is what it takes people, now if everyone would do this in front of their home senators office we have a chance.Petitions, faxes and emails dont work

I am a single mother with 3 kids. I look for work all day, everyday. Out of the hundreds of resumes/applications that I have filled out I have only had 2 interviews! Now that my unemployment is cut off I won't be able to put gas in my car to look for a job! what do these people think that we are doing with our money?! It's definatly not being put into a savings account. The minute that my check is cashed I give my money to the utility companies, the phone company, the water company. I buy groceries. Now they won't be getting paid, so by cutting off our unemployment everybody is going to suffer. I better pull out my candles,so that my kids and I can have lights in our home. The government can never do without, but they expect us to.

I am one of the people in need of the benefit extension. I am on the verge of homelessness. No food, no shelter. The last little bit of scraps I own will be thrown on the streets. The U.S. Congress (aka the US government) are the ones who initiated this whole spiraling economic downfall to their own citizens; which advertently affected the world. The housing market has a primary and secondary market which the US Government both run and benefit from. They (BUSH) wanted more people in houses because they wanted more money fluctuating. The mortgages on our homes are sold two and three times to people we have no idea of. It is another form of slavery by contract. They knew & banked on the fact that home owners would default. You get the debt and the banks would just resell your home for more. They were doubling their profit. The system was working; but no one monitored the enormous amount of people defaulted on loans they (the lenders) knew you couldn’t afford anyway. They just didn't expect so many at one time. If everyone was doing business this way they knew it was coming. It was like putting millions of people in the ocean with a row boat. All of that floating money became stagnated and most of it disappeared. They put us (the people) and them (the U.S.) on a system of credit. We are and this country are in a debt we will never get out of. We or this country aren’t rich, but the ones who finance us are. Ask any rich person can they get a hold of all there money, they can’t because it’s all tied up. This system needs to be fixed. This is a system built on taking, not giving. Capitalism means to capitalize; even if it means sacrificing your own brethren. Anyone not helping in this fight for American citizens receiving benefits; are not fighting because they are one of the benefiters. The American dream turned into a nightmare. “KEEP WRITING: KEEP FIGHTING!” To Congress, I say this: “you are the ones who we elect to fight for us, just as our soldiers go to war for you. Our soldiers fight so that our country stays ours, while the US legislatures find profitable ways to sell our people through outsourcing employment and selling our land through secondary mortgages. You owe us, give us back what you have taken.”

How long do you extend unemployment. Normally it provides 6months, we are now at 2years. How do we pay for it if we already borrowed 1.6Trillion this year alone from china? I think the government needs to rethink what they are spending money on to begin with. The jobs bill has nothing to due with jobs. The bill is to pay people to stay home. We need a bill if anything to get people working.

Never got a Warning…Never knew I'd be cut off so abruptly. This is the worst recession in over 75+ years. When I ended my 3rd tier, EDD said I qualified for another extension and it would be filled immediately. Didn't see anything in the mail for a week. Tried calling EDD but you can never get through. Now I'm realizing everything is on hold because of the Senate(thank you Republicans). I can only take some solace in that I have a 2nd interview coming up next week and have a good chance at landing the job….But what if I don't??

I was a loan officer from 2003-2007. The kinds of exotic loans the banks were pushing were unbelievable….Ever hear of an 'Option Arm'/Negative Amortization loan? That's when your balance goes up for choosing the minimum payment.(at least you get 4 options every month but the 4th option…wow…I can get you into a 500k loan for only 1608.20 a month) The crazier thing…they had 100% financing for these kinds of loans!! 100% financing on a loan where the balance could go up if you choose the min. payment. But then again, how could banks go wrong if homes were appreciating 20% a year? ummmmm, welcome to the Great Recession……. And don't get me started on NINA's (No Income, No Asset).

Where: Washington DC Mall
When: July 2nd –
Time: You will be notified of an exact time to converge on the mall. Please do not do so before this time.
What to Bring: Tent, water, lawn chair, talents and skills list, notepads, pens, clothes, pillows, deodorant
Why: To put a face on the unemployed and for our very survival.

Without assistance we will lose our homes. Without assistance we will not be able to feed ourselves nor our families. Without assistance we will no longer be able to continue our job search. The time has come to stop begging for help but instead to demand it. It is not our fault we lost our jobs nor is it our fault that we cannot find new ones.

It is time to unite as one and put a face on the unemployed. It is time to unite as one and show our leaders that we will not just die off quietly and alone. If we are to die, we will die together for the world to see.

My brothers and sisters, within our ranks there is a collective talent unlike the world has ever known. Within our ranks there is a will to live and pursue happiness. We must unite, while we are still able, if we are to have a chance.

On July 2nd, gather your belongings and join us on the national mall in Washington DC. Bring tents and plenty of water because there we will stay until our leaders start to have compassion for the people of this great nation. Please bring with you a list of your talents and skills as well as a copy of your resume. The lists will be used to organize our collective abilities – the resumes will be used as fuel for a bonfire.

Together we can forge our own futures and mold our own destinies. Together we can and will form the greatest resource this world has ever known and our first headquarters will be located on the mall in DC.

Our government will witness, on their front lawn, our collective suffering as well as our will to survive. Our tents will symbolize the loss of our homes. Our bonfire of resumes will symbolize the lack of jobs. We will be fed and if we are not, we will die of hunger together for the world to see.

If by July 2nd our government has failed to show us compassion, unemployment assistance will not be enough. We will also demand housing, office space and grant money to fund our movement. We will create our own jobs if none exist. Make no mistake, no one will go hungry and no one will leave until they have either created their own job or found one elsewhere. Together we can and will define our own futures while putting a face on the unemployed.

Now you must help spread the word of this event anyway you can. We must unite if we are to survive and the time to do it is NOW! Individuals are needed to help lead this movement. Send an email to lols01@aol.com to become one of those leaders.

Our ranks will surely grow as time goes on but initially we must be strong in numbers for this to work. The first ones on the mall will be the ones that make the biggest difference as well as the ones this nation will never forget. Email lols01@aol.com and say that you are willing to answer the call to be one of the first. Please provide your first name and a cell phone number if you still have one.

The fireworks will begin early this year in DC if our leaders fail to act!

-Leader of Lost Souls

Some and I mean some folks have abused benefits but the majority need help to keep their family afloat. I am a 50 year old male that has been out of work since Jan of 2009. The industry I was employed in is destroyed, changing jobs / careers
is not easy and most employers won't even consider me with 1000's a applications

I spend all day everyday applying for work, attending any event or job fair possible, but only have had a few interviews and being a women over 50 I don't stand a chance. I just finished the first tier, got a note to do nothing I qualify for an extension, and then it all stopped. Without this help I will be homeless in about 1-2 months, the car lease is up in two months and without a home or car there is no chance of finding work. How can this happen all due to politics. I was a Republican until yesterday… but who am I kidding, they don't care

Viicki: People DO care. I tell my children, because they don't quite understand the impact yet (the loss of my job <single mom> and fun things <cable, movies, new clothes…the basics for ever growing children>..I tell them when they grow up, they will look back on this time and be amazed we made it through. I don't know how – but we will. I hear people making awful comments about the unemployed…I don't think they realize the majority of us ARE looking for work, we have NOT collected extra benefits that we could (food stamps, state health insurance, etc), but I am going to have to now. We are broke. The shame is unbearable. The fury I feel is a fire pit in my stomach.

I'm sorry for your circumstance – we all have our crosses. But people DO care…just not the ones that got us into this mess and can GET US OUT.

Jenny – thanks for your comment about shame. I do feel shame – that I can not provide for my kids. But I realize now I AM going to have to apply for food stamps AND free health insurance – we've qualified since I've been unemployed, but my pride kept me from applying. Now I have no choice. I'd like the Senate to SHOW me where the jobs are. I've asked the unemployment office to follow up on resumes I've sent…where do they go?? No, we did NOT create this disastrous situation but we, the everyday workers are paying for it with our health and our children's futures.

To: Republican Congress – I am a citizen of the United States of American. I have lost my house and now thanks to the republican's will loose my apartment in two days. Within the next two or three weeks, I will not be able to pay vehicle insurance and/or buy gas to find a job. Oh, ans as some Congress Republican's say “I am not a drug dealer.” I do look for jobs, I am told they are not hiring. I had to spend money on a computer that I didn't need just to file for unemployment. With this set aside and the record straight how can you sit in office and say you are helping your fellow American's, But will NOT PASS, The extendede unemployment benefits for everyone. However, you will send billions to other country's and bail out bank's and auto makers. When your Father's,Mother's,sons and daughter's have their back to the wall. I would like a person of the republican party of Congress to get on National T.V. and explain to your fellow A,erican's why we have to do without and other country's do with. This is the republicanparty's fault for bailing out banks and auto makers and leaving your fellow man and woman in the dust. Please, tell me why. The average American worker, that really makes the money for the Grand United States of America, should suffer, but other country's get money handed to them left and right. As I see it, it all boils down to greed of money for the republican party, bankers and auto makers, and the hell with the sweazt of the American men and women, that really make this country. Thank you I have had a good life. Thank you, for me loosing everything I ever owned. Now it is your turn. Do you think you will be voted back into office, when this is all said and done. I DON'T. Thank God for democrats, cause you have no idea.

I'm a teacher in California (not a drug addict or a drug dealer) and I was laid off last summer, I didn't quit. I've been looking for jobs daily, any job, NO ONE IS HIRING. The jobs that are hiring tell me I don't have the right amount of experience or the right degrees. I can't even get a job waiting tables or a simple job at The Home Depot!! My California teaching credentials and my M.A. in Education that I got in debt for are USELESS!! Now I'm hearing talk of yet again increasing classroom sizes to 30 students per teacher forcing the districts to lay even more teachers off?!?!? What am I going to do? Couldn't they at least have waited until a few days after the first of the month when most people's bills are due? Why aren't their (the people in congress) ENORMOUS UTTERLY RIDICULOUS paychecks cut? I guess I'll be left to file for bankruptcy, something I've been avoiding for over a year now. Very desperate and at a loss of what to do…

If we weren't convinced after the Bush Administration, it is blatantly obvious now that we have a party in our two-party system that should be ousted. The Republican Party has now proven it is undeserving to serve American citizens and I hope every single Republican b@st#rd is voted out of office in November and permanently replaced with Democrats–or Independents–whatever…!

SHAME ON THE REPUBLICAN PARTY FOR BLOCKING THE JOBS BILL IN CONGRESS!!!

Anyone who is a registered Republican should be equally ashamed to be a part of a party represented by the like of W and Palin and the current Republicans in Congress, who are representing big business, but not the citizens of our country.

We pay so much in benefits for non-citizens, illegal immigrants, aid to foreign countries and wars on foreign soil, it is strangling both the state and federal economy. Yet the federal government cannot pay our own citizens who have invested so much into our economy, but have been laid off–?

We can pay for the war in Afghanistan by the billions, yet the federal government cannot pay our own citizens who have invested so much into our economy, but have been laid off?

What is going to happen to the thousands–millions–of people who, like myself, have spent a lifetime earning a living and whose families may get turned out onto the streets now?! Certainly that will cost the state and federal government even more than federal unemployment extensions.

SHAME ON THE REPUBLICANS IN THE U. S. CONGRESS!!!!!!!!!!

I want to say, there are a lot more spendatures that could be cut, than the JOB BILL and cutting the pay for FIRE FIGHTERS! I have seen some of the Bills that are past & where the money goes…it's unreal!! I like the idea of posting a story a day of the people that need or depend on the JOB BILL to survive. This is just a side note to all the big corporations that moved their customer service over to other countries. You may not have to pay as much for representitives over there, but you are bringing America down. Your biting the hand that FEEDS you!! Have you thought of that? You contributed to the unemployement percentage & there for took money out of the hands of workers that would have spent money on your product. If you don't see a decline in purchaces now, just wait…it'll come. Once again…it's all about “the bottem line” which is MONEY.

All of my clients knew their interest rate, the loan type and their monthly payments. Plain and simple. I blame some loan officers for not properly explaining certain exotic loan programs but remember, It was the lender that came up with this 'loan type' to sell to the secondary market. They pay these risk managements guys millions and you want to blame the loan officer? Okay, sure go ahead. You're entitled to your opinion

Warrent Buffet said he was shocked that his tax rate was less than his secretary's. Why, because Buffet is smart enough to pay accounts big cash to find tax loopholes that save him millions and possibly billions. Republicans love to tout the 'trickle down theory'….Really? The problem with that is, just because a business owner saves a boat load of money on his taxes, that does not automatically translate him to hiring more people. He might put it in a Swiss Bank ACCt,,,,he might hoard the cash,,,,he might buy a yaught….he might give his employees a raise or he might not.

I live in California and I was kinda leaning towards voting for Carly Fiorina for the Senate. I was impressed that she was a CEO of HP and thought we needed some business minded people in the Senate. “Are you kidding me!!”. The Republicans are like the Borg (Star Trek). A collective unit that refuse to think individually. Remember ALL REPUBLICANS voted against the stimulus package, health care reform(which isn't perfect but who wants to leave their health in the hands of a profit hungry corporation) and now the Unemployment Extension bill. Not one frikin' Republican!! “We are the Borg, a collective unit, resistance is futile, please vote for us in November”. Yeah, I'll vote republican once I see a pig solve a complex econometric math problem. Good Luck.

Concerning last week’s Republican blockage of jobless claim extensions. I have been a Republican for 30 years; I have also been unemployed for more than 26 weeks. I do not support my Party's decision to stop the claims for people who have been unemployed for less than 99 weeks. My area is still suffering from 18% unemployment. I hope this matter can be resolved soon:

I would like to post the following:
Unemployed VS Congress
If you are unemployed or know someone that is… Keep in mind even if you are employed now tomorrow is not guaranteed.
I would to remind you elections are coming. It does not matter Senators or Congressman if they are in office now, vote their ass out of office. It took less than 5 days for those red coats whores to give a blank check to their red coats pimps the (banksters). Not one of them deserve to be the elected officials, we as Americans sent to DC to represent AMERICANS.
Today it’s the unemployed (remember out-source), tomorrow it’s the rest of us AMERICANS. I could go on but, AMERICANS already know. Just please pass this thought along, In November show them real AMERICANS power and have them join the ranks of the unemployed.

Regards

Just one employed AMERICAN

It is the republicans who do not care about middle america. they are the ones who pander to corporate america, padding their pockets by corporate lobbyists. It is the republicans who need to be voted out. If they get control of the congress, we are all in big, big trouble. and not just us, but our planet as well.

That is the best idea I've heard all day. We sure as hell don't need any more politicians who are 80 years old and still in office. Maybe it will weed out the deadbeats and those self interest groups.

Your right – they don't care. To them we're just a end to a means. They could care less what happens to the America people. It all about how much money they can line their checkbooks with before their term is over. There has been so much corruption and betrayal. we as a people need to fight back, This government used to stand for good and moral values, a place you could say your proud to be from but try to say your from America over in Europe or Asia or the Middle East.

They hate us and not surprisingly so after what we did.

Will just one late car lease payment to Ford (late by four days) hurt my credit?…

I didn’t quite follow this to begin with. But when I read it a third time, it all added up in my mind. Thanks for the insight. Definitely something to think about. Thanks for sharing…

It's more than sad. I was on unemployment now for 11 months and I have looked for work all this time and NO interviews. I even tried for jobs I wouldn't be qualified for just to take a chance. I hate to say it , but there are going to be a lot of suicide rates going up in this country, or you will be hearing about people killing their families juat like that guy did. People are going to get fragile mentally, and there won't be help for them. God damn you republicans!!!!!

Why is this happening? No where in the article did i see an actual reason as to why congress has decided to screw more americans. What are we supposed to do? Starve? Not pay bills? ( those bills that help the economy) Well as long as they have a nice full fridge, a nice vacation. Oh did i mention Christmas is not to far away? But what the hell do they care,. I would just like to see the roles reversed for a year ( not 30 days) see how they pay rent, eat, feed the kids, and make sure the power is on. Corprate america should step up and do something FOR the people who make it so they all have atleast 2 homes and a boat.when will the madness end? By this point our for fathers would have revolted already.

GOD DAMN WHY ARE THESE PEOPLE ALLOWED TO STAY IN POWER? WHY? AS A WHOLE THEY DO NOT CONTRIBUTE ANYTHING GOOD TO HUMANITY. NOTHING AT ALL. TAKE THESE PEOPLE OUT OF POWER! AND THROW GEORGE BUSH IN JAIL WHERE HE BELONGS.

No job. No health insurance. Predisposition factors. Why is it the people who we entrusted our vote, the people with all the initials after their last name, the people who make 6 and 7 and 8 figure salaries … couldn't see something coming and protect ALL people of this country with options? I have never been a paranoid personality, but I have no choice now to believe this was planned to crush all but the rich and powerful. This country IS in a CRISIS. When is someone, anyone, any group, any power going to realize we must HELP each other. If you have food, share it. If you have shelter, share it. Come up with ideas to help someone hungry, the powers that be obviously aren't doing it.

Well, just to add … as a small business owner (general contractor) I have not had a contract since 2008 and I did not have the option of unemployment insurance. Oh … and did I mention. My mortgage company was about to remodify my loan about 3 years ago and then said, “oh wait, you own your own business, sorry, we cannot do this after all.” Great. What was all that propoganda for the past 10 years about helping small business? No bail out for me, not even a hold on taxes the government thinks I owe because I couldn't pay and had to live on them. Interest on those (taxes) is accruing as I type this. No one looking out for middle and lower class Americans. Just not happening.

This is just a horrible example of how considerate Congress is for those who pay them their salaries. I think the role should be reversed. Remove the wonderful source of income they receive and pay them $12-$15 an hour and see how they enjoy the struggle to fight another day in the real world, because they don’t live in it. I work for the government and I am not pleased to hear these decisions.

Student loan is good for those who can’t afford college, like i was, but i hope the gov’t can cut down the interests rate.
