Tonight’s Other Runoff: Georgia’s 9th

In addition to the major primary runoff in Arkansas’s Senate race and the 10 states holding primaries today, a new member of Congress will be elected tonight in Georgia’s 9th District. Voters there will choose between Republican former state lawmakers Tom Graves and Lee Hawkins to replace Nathan Deal (R), who is vying for governor.

But tonight’s prize is only a seat through December. The state’s regularly scheduled primary for a full term is July 20, and both men have filed to run. The Washington Post reports that Hawkins will remain on the ballot regardless of tonight’s outcome but Graves plans to “make a decision on July after tomorrow.”
