Harry Reid: ‘U.S. Stands Firmly With Israel’ After Deadly Raid
Friday, June 04, 2010 at 1:35 pm
Four days later, the Senate Majority Leader responds to Israel’s deadly raid on the Mavi Marmara, a Turkish-flagged ship shuttling aid to Gaza.
“Israel is one of our strongest and most important allies,” Reid said in a short statement, “and the United States stands firmly with Israel at this critical time.”
I deeply regret the loss of life in the flotilla incident, including the death of an American citizen.
Israel has an obligation to protect its citizens and therefore has a clear right under international law to prevent weapons from getting in the hands of terrorists determined to target them. Israel indicated it was willing to put in place a process to ensure that legitimate humanitarian relief reached Gaza. Unfortunately this offer was rejected.
Israel has pledged to carry out a transparent and thorough investigation of this incident, and I look forward to its findings.
As does the rest of the world.

So their excuse is these weapons that the flotilla was ferrying to the Palestinians? Show me the weapons and I'll say “Sure, protect yourselves.” You would think if there were weapons Israel would be on the highest mountain screaming about the weapons they found. Instead they accuse these humanitarians of being terrorists, and then retract their statement when challenged to show proof.

whoops, except not. see, my dear harry, one cannot declare a blockade on a non-sovereign-state such as gaza without first declaring war on the governing body of that state. in case you missed it, harry, that has not happened. israel's blockade of gaza is illegitimate. also, the ship was closer to cyprus than it was to israel at the time of the raid. to put it simply, a raid on a civilian ship in international waters is illegal. had any other nation on earth–god help us all if an arab nation did this–done this, we'd be fuming at them. but because it's israel, and because the american who died wasn't a white christian, it's no big deal. f*** that.

Predictably pathetic. What? No “sense of the Senate,” vigorously supporting Israel's right to defend itself against whatever term they choose to denigrate people calling attention to Israel barbarous blockade of Gaza? Hell, why not double their “aid” money/weapons/political cover?
Apparently, Israel (still) has the right to assassinate Americans with impunity.
