It would seem that anyone seeking to reform any of the many ills in Washington had better be prepared to do it without using those participating in the political circus.

Mr. Keating Five was temporarily a reformed sinner, but the campaign at least to me showed him to still be a man of elastic morals. His rhetoric at times was less than accurate, if not untruthful. His irresponsible choice of a VP that considering if his health failed would leave us with her as President was an unbelievable exercise in ME before the US.

I don't think the nature of politics is such that you can expect them at best to do other than serve their constituents and at what seems to be their normal worst, themselves. Remember the unfortunately accepted maxim that says their first duty is to get re-elected, not do what is right?

The truly frightening thing about the problems with campaign finance is that both Presidential candidates are essentially funded from very similar business sources. Of the top twenty business categories that donated to each candidate as of the end of June, sixteen were the same. The four categories that were different for the top twenty likely appear lower in the list of each candidate. That is documented for at least one, the oil and gas industry, which is in McCain's top twenty but also has donated (albeit much less both in actual and proportionate dollars) to Obama. It doesn't matter who wins the elections, business wins in any case. See "Life as Usual in Board Rooms and Back Rooms" for a detailed analysis (http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/943975...).

This ->Mary Boyle, spokeswoman for Common Cause, says McCain is the victim of a political rat race he's tried to end. "The reality is that we have a broken campaign finance system," she said, "and you got to do what you've got to do to become president <- sound like nothing but an excuse. Have we not had enough of excuses to last us a lifetime?
