Pelosi: No Tier V for Unemployment Benefits
Friday, May 28, 2010 at 11:48 am
One of the enduring confusions amid the debate over extending unemployment benefits revolves around the fact that the Democrats’ proposals don’t actually extend UI benefits at all. They simply extend the filing deadline to apply for existing benefits.
That dynamic hasn’t been lost on a growing number of unemployed folks who have exhausted all available assistance, and many of them are pushing for additional tiers of emergency help. Yesterday, though, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) indicated that Tier V advocates shouldn’t hold their breath.
Asked by a reporter if Democrats “foresee having another tier of expanded benefits,” Pelosi responded:
Not — not — no. This bill will go into the end of November. At that time we will take up something, but not between now and then.
Pelosi also noted that local politics are playing at least as much of a role as ideology in the debate over whether Congress should extend even existing benefits.
“The phenomenon or the situation that I see is that members who are from low-unemployment areas are very concerned about the deficit,” Pelosi said. “Members who are from high-unemployment areas are very concerned about the jobs.”

This is unbelieveable, Congress turning their backs on American people in need, in a crisis of their own. We have plenty of money to send overseas for humanitarian reasons but yet the American people are nickle and dimed when we have our own crisis within our own borders. If they take away my unemployment benefits then give me a job in return, or come visit my area in South Eastern CT and see if you can get a job. Flood your congressman with phone calls, emails, faxes…..it's not over yet. Election day will be coming, all unemployed, just remember who in your district did not help you out in a time of great need.
A 99'er

The Democrats are the ones who are going to pay, unfortunately, for this. The GOP is counting on it.

I see that Pelosi (the bleeding heart liberal) also doesn't care about Americans that are drowning. Wait till November Miss Pelosi, you will no longer be the Speaker of the House.
Comment posted May 28, 2010 @ 6:51 pm
Dear Miss Pilosi,
You state people in low unemployment areas are concerned about the deficit and high unemployment areas are concerned about jobs..so what your saying is there are areas in the United States that are not really concerned about job creation and are experiencing low unemployment. Exactly where are these areas? It's surely not in California. I don't even know how she guts it up to say that being a Dem from California. Who on earth voted for her????????? Arnold?
Comment posted May 28, 2010 @ 7:07 pm
Lets put it this way, “Miss stick my foot in my mouth Pilosi”,
As of May 2010 statistics, the three lowest unemployment rates were N. Dakota at 3.8, S. Dakota at 4.7 and Nebraska at 5. Every other state in the US is 6.4 or above and 6.4 was Vermont. California comes in at a whopping 12.6 with Michigan leading the way at 14.
Who exactly is this women talking too or about for that matter. Does she actually know what's going on in our country. That's right folks, only three states with an unemployment rate of 6.4 or below. But shes got a job….I hope she sleeps well at night.

Maybe a bill in November?
No problem, if I haven't died from starvation or lost my desire to live from being in a shelter guess who I am not going to vote for.
Comment posted May 28, 2010 @ 10:49 pm
Fucking cunt. I know every single 99'er will NOT be voting for her. I'd like to see her unemployed, have no lifeline and no paychecks and no savings and have some asshole politician tell her that no help is coming for her.
Comment posted May 28, 2010 @ 11:21 pm
Sorry but you could only vote for her in her state. I doubt she will be out of office, but if the republicans retake the majority she will no longer be speaker of the house. Another thing, she's not like us she has money coming out of the ying yin. She will never be in our position. Other then that I'm with you.
Comment posted May 28, 2010 @ 11:46 pm
I know she will never be like “us” it was more of a wish for a role reversal. Taking her down a peg and having her not be the speaker of the house is a good start. And it doesn't seem like such a big deal if the Republicans take over anymore, if the Dem Speaker of the House won't stand up for us and flat out says that she refuses to help us than why not go Rep, there is apparently no difference.

The democrat is rooting for barbara boxer to win here in Calif. I am sure Pelosi wants her to win. I for one is not going to vote for any candidate this time. Republican is worst. I wish there is an independent candidate we can choose from here in California. Barbara Boxer just lost my vote. Sorry Barbarra tell that to your friend Pelosi that she is the culprit.

Folks, this has to become national news, email your local and national papers and tell them the importance of doing a story and keeping this alive in the media, it's the only way to pressure Congress. Calls, emails, faxes to your district representatives have apparently fallen on deaf ears.

Pelosi has a big mouth but she is not God, and alone not does she run the government. You need to make your concerns know to your congressional person on a daily basis. Contact the White House, President Obama has a say in this also. It is very important to call your congressman and let them know how this is affecting you. Ask your friends and neightbors to call. We have to bring attention to this because we are the ones who are losing food and shelter. They are not going to care about you just because. LET THEM KNOW DAILY. Let the media know. Personally I think not being able to feed my family because I can't find a job and the government is helping every other countries citizens but their own is more important than “Al Gore getting a divorce”. Please our voices need to be heard writing to each other is comforting but it is not going to get the attention of the government or the media and that is what we must do.

People PLEASE stop complaining, and come November start voting. I have been unemployed or underemployed for over 2 years, inspite of constant searching. What we all need to do is vote out whoever is in office PERIOD! once November rolls around. That will send a message that Polosi will never forget…once her and the others are also unemployed due to their ignorance. I know many others are in my situation or worse where buying food even becomes an issue at this point. Please lets vote out all of our House and Senate Reps. PERIOD!!
Comment posted June 3, 2010 @ 11:58 pm
How can you people sleep at night. You bail out other countries and leave we Americans to DIE!! We cannot survive without the TIER V and JOBS. This is the worst I have seen in my 65 years and the government needs to take care of it own people! God have mercy on your souls if you do not turn things around for the millions of us suffering and becoming homeless!! If this were happening to your families, you would fix it no question about it!!

When the banks needed a bailout Oh they were, “Johnny on the spot!” Now we need help and look at what they do!! They are all LIARS!! Bought off LIARS!!!

I think that if the Senators and Reps including Nancy Pelosi would come down a notch, they would realize that some people can't even put bread on the table, while the people in Washington get anything they want and don't have to worry about where the next dollar comes from. Their pay comes from the taxpayer. It's too bad they don't realize that.

Let it be known that the limousine liberal from Massachusetts, Senator Kerry, has lined up with his Republican friends to help maintain the wealthy lifestyles of the stock fund managers at the expense of the unemployed. Read ” The Unemployed Held Hostage” in the NY Times.

Ive been unemployed 2 years but how can you say that the government is deplorable when we've had 99 weeks of benefits? Do you think we would have had that much under a republican admin.? I think not!
Comment posted August 5, 2010 @ 7:20 pm
I would like for all those Senators and Congressmen to walk in my shoes for a week. They wouldn't like it! They are so used to having money they don't understand the main street people who want to work. WE NEED HELP AND WE NEED IT NOW!!!! How can this situation be ignored. You are setting up the country for high crime, suicides, angry people losing their jobs seeking retaliation. You better think about what you are saying. Do I matter to you people????

Nancy Pelosi needs to be on unemployment, and so do some of the other senators. Then they would see how much fun it is, wondering how you are going to pay your house, the utilities, all the other bills, put gas in your car to look for jobs, and put food on the table. what would they know, they all get big old fat paychecks, ang really good insurance. i can't even afford insurance, so i have none!!
They all need to get off their high horses, they have nothing to worry about, they can all make it very comfortably. i have been looking for a job faithfully, there is nothing out there, You don't even get a call back, or anything from any where you apply at. but they can keep sending money to other countries all the time and that's fine, well they need to start taking care of the people right here. I would much rather be working, than collecting unemployment.i want to know what they are going to do when everyone runs out of unemployment??????????????? welfare? title 19? food stamps? ya right half of the time they turn you down for all of that anyway
So come you senators with the big pay checks, put yourselves in our place for while and see how far you would get before you complaining. DO SOMETHING!!!!!!!!

I AGREE BILL BUT THEY NEED A STRONGER KICK IN THE BUTT TO WAKE THEM UP. ALL OF THEM WOULD LOVE TO
JOIN JESUS I AM SURE. BUT GUESS WHAT? AS HE SAID
IT IS EASIER FOR A CAMEL TO GO THROUGH THE EYE OF A NEEDLE THAN IT IS FOR A RICH MAN(THEM) TO GET INTO
