The Transitive Thinking of Louie Gohmert

The foreclosure crisis rumbles on. The unemployment rate is tickling double digits. What’s the cause of the chaos?

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) says it’s the erosion of the country’s morality. And he has fresh new evidence: The recent photos showing Miss USA contestants in lingerie.

If you’re confused, you’re not alone. But here’s the story.

Gohmert appeared yesterday on Sean Hannity’s Fox News program as part of the “Great American Panel” segment. This, apparently, is a portion of the show where “Great Americans” — folks like GOP strategist Michael Reagan and Diana Falzone, host of the “Cosmoliscious with Diana” talk show — analyze the pressing issues of the day. Like the racy Miss USA photos.

On that very topic, Hannity asked his panel: “What does this tell us about society?”

Gohmert was first to respond: “An absolute breakdown in morality,” he said. “And when you lose morality, you get economic chaos. And when you have economic chaos, historically, people have always been willing to give up liberty. And that’s what we’re seeing.”

You heard it here first.
