CONGRESS not only failed to do its oversight, it helped King Bush to break the law, and it allowed the law breakers to go free. And, I don't think it will stop.

CONGRESS violated its oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution. And I don't think it will stop.

Nancy Pelosi weaseled. Hoyer actively helped.

Harry Reid as usual was ineffective.

Senators Dodd and Feingold did a great job and tried.

If the government fails its up to the people. Voice your support of the Constitution. Vote.

Security which the FISA law is supposed to provide is not worth losing our Freedoms over , even if it worked.

Do you really think a plotting terrorist is going to announce his plans on the phone?

Don't you understand for this phone monitoring system to even have a chance of working the NSA will tap as many foreign calls as it can.

"Hello Marie, Mr. NSA, Mr. Bush, Mr. Cheney, Mr. Attny General, how's the weather in Paris?

Gad, to think I pay the telecoms for spying on me.

My first thought was... 'Congress' votes available to highest bidder... How, exactly, does this qualify as "news"? '

Then, reading on, I came to agree that the issue is more complex. It reveals a deep-seated failure of our elected officials (and, by extension, the electorate who endowed them with their power) to understand and respect the nature of the Constitution and the rights granted us under it.

Were it otherwise, no criminal telecom, greedey defense contractor (Boeing or EADS), or lying Attorneys General could offer a self-respecting legislator enough money or other emolument to prevent them being held strictly accountable for their several violations of the People's trust.

Sadly, Congress' watchdog (the American People) are also of the same ilk and soundly asleep at the switch...

..."a near symbiotic relationship between Congress and industry, often lending a sense that business interests take priority over citizens' concerns..." That's some understatement there. The Bush administration has brought this process to the peak of perfection, with business lobbyists literally writing their own legislation. Do we think the Democrats will be much better? The FISA debacle doesn't warrant much optimism.
