Pence: Coverage of Health Care Blowback is ‘Smearing’ Conservatives

Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) becomes, I think, the first member of Congress to join Tea Party activists in pushing back against one of the big narratives of the week — the ramped-up violence and threats against members of Congress who backed health care reform.

“I also rise to condemn the efforts to smear millions of law-abiding Americans who oppose ObamaCare by associating them and their principled opposition with these criminal acts,” said Pence. “The American people have every right to oppose this government takeover of health care without being lumped in with bigots and vandals by liberals in Congress and in the mainstream press. I say to my countrymen: End the threats, end the vandalism. And let’s also end the smears of law-abiding citizens exercising their first amendment right to speech and peaceable assembly.”

Pence is the third-ranking member of the GOP’s House leadership.

Funny, Pence doesn't ever get around to denouncing the violence—he just denounces those targeted by violence. Typical brown-shirt tactics. Mussolini would be proud.

One of the hallmarks of opposition to “health care reform” is a concern for precisely what the United States Constitution does, or does not, allow.

So, what precisely is the source of the “right” for large, undifferentiated groups of people not to be “lumped in” with somebody else in the course of political rhetoric?

Is it the same place that we can find the “right” to health care?

Did you actually LISTEN to the man's words, or do you automatically do what most on the left do? He condemned the acts! Pay attention….for a change!

Kate: Your beloved Repubs are condemning the acts after they encouraged them in the first place!

Were you out of the country last weekend?

Members of your beloved Repub Party were standing on the balcony of the Captitol weaving signs and telling the tea baggers to keep it up. I'm sure I don't have to tell you of how disgusting you side acted for the whole world to see.

Wake up before someone gets killed! Your side is promoting all this and trying to make it look like a huge majority of Americans do too. They do not.

Americans who are suffering and dying are not buying this Repub crap.
Repubs should be ashamed of themselves. I find them to be immoral and a total embarrassment. Repubs Christians must not have read the Sermon on the Mount.

What? are you kidding? What Pence SAID was akin to a mother telling her kid it's not O.K. to steal a candy bar, but it's O.K. to eat it in the store.

He puts jabs at the Dems in with the so-called condemnation, reducing the impact of what he should have been saying. You had better pay attention to the english language and the mealy-mouthed way it's used by those who should do the right thing, but can only do a half-a**ed job of it because they refuse to accept culpability for their part in this.

Nuts like Michelle Bachmann, Sarah Palin and Steve King need to step up and condemn the violence they share responsibility for without jabs. Then maybe it will be looked at as sincere. Will they? It's doubtful, because their attitude is one of “if your ideology isn't in lock-step with mine, you are the enemy” kind of horses**t.

Yes, you are bitter. You allowed yourself to be lied to, just because they are the same political persuasion. There are good and bad within both parties, and you swallowed the rhetoric of those in your party who think this kind of thing is funny, or “patriotic”.

It's NOT. Quit being arrogant and start condemning it too, instead of trying to defend it.

So you spend a year calling the President a Commie, warning that hew is purposely ruining the country, crying that he wants to take over and lock people in FEMA camps, but it's no fault of yours when the people who you've brainwashed act on what you've got them to believe. Republicans are the worst, nastiest scum in this country. They are no longer a serious political party, they're a festering wound that needs to be excised. They don't even have the decency or grasp on reality to be ashamed.

Because Americans are suffering and dying. This crap about rights is just that.

We are the only industrialized counrty in the world that does not proide health care to it citizens. We are only going to die anyway. Why do righites fight so hard if they are only going to die like the rest of us? They claim to be the party of God. What God is that? The one that is mean, angry, racist, greedy, homophobic etc??? I just don't get it.

So, do you think you know as much about the Constitution as the President ? A scholar and Professor of Constitutional Law ? I love how you Wing-Nuts all think that you're smarter than Obama. It's funny.

[...] This is what happens when you subjugate all other concerns to victory for the party: when the RNC seeks to convince its supporters that a modest health care package represents the end of democracy, they should expect some of those supporters to react by using any means necessary to preserve democracy. But rather than taking responsibility, Republican leaders are turning to increasingly pathetic excuses: the Democrats do it too! The media is being mean! [...]

You are assuming I am a Republican, which of course, brings to mind that old adage about assuming. And you have definitely made an ass of yourselves.

And you do NOT want to ASSUME you know diddly about Christianity either. It's quite evident you know so little, and a tiny bit of knowledge is worse than none at all.

The only people who condone violence are on YOUR beloved LEFTIES>PROGRESSIVE>SOCIALIST>COMMIES! I think you better take a good hard look. NO ONE on the right has ever advocated violence. We don't need it. We actually have TRUTH on our side. You've got Alinsky.

Given the nonsense talking points, the assumption that you are a Republican (oh, that's right; after the last eight years a considerable number of you are suddenly “independents”) is an easy one to make.

And, people who make asinine comments (i.e. “LEFTIES>PROGRESSIVE>SOCIALIST>COMMIES) should be mindful of calling others asses. Projection just looks pitiful sometimes.

Wow. O.K., You're a nutcase bagger. That much is clear now.

If you watched more than just Fox noise, you would see who is advocating violence in the manner it should be, not “edited-for -content” brainwashing you obviously have been indoctrinated by.

You have twisted the Bible for your own ends. It was not meant to be interpreted like the extremists in the Muslim faith have twisted the Koran. Seems YOU know diddly about what it is to be Christian. Stop wielding it like a weapon.

When the first death occurs because of this, we'll see who has been advocating violence.

Hell, where in the Constitution does it say that “free speech zones” are A-OK if the government wants to curtail the free speech rights of people who don't agree with their decision to go to war illegally?

And, where were you the previous eight years when the last administration was ripping out the parts of the Constitution they didn't agree with?

Every rightwing/wingnut/teabagger cliche comes tripping out of your mouth in one single blast—–the stereotype fits you like a glove. You are a simpleton if you think your disclaimer of GOP affiliation absolves you of any of these labels. It just tells me you are so far to the right that even the Repubs consider you an extremist. What a clown!
