Obama Gets the Immigration Reform Ball Rolling; Anti-Immigration Groups Fight Back

Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 5:21 pm

Pro-immigration reform advocates may be applauding President Obama’s immigration meetings at the White House today, but anti-immigration groups are pushing back hard.

Immigration reform has been on the back burner of the Obama administration’s agenda because of the recession and health care, but now it seems to be gaining momentum — particularly with today’s two White House meetings on immigration and the scheduled March 21 immigration reform rally in Washington. Now several anti-immigration groups have unveiled new campaigns and strategies to obstruct the “amnesty” plans.

“ALIPAC is releasing a three pronged strategy today designed to defeat the current push by President Obama, and Senators Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Lindsay Graham (R-S.C.) to give Amnesty to over ten million illegal immigrants in American thus turning them into competitive workers and voters,” Americans for Legal Immigration, an anti-illegal immigration PAC, wrote in a press release. And as a “counter measure” to the immigration rally, ALIPAC announced yesterday it would help organize protests, led by Tea Party Against Amnesty, on April 15 to coincide with other Tea Party rallies across the country. According to the Against Amnesty Website, the anti-immigration protests currently have 5,839 supporters.

To counter the March 21 rally in D.C., the anti-immigration group NumbersUSA held a conference call Monday on suggestions for talking points when calling their lawmakers. Callers suggested that Mexican women are the “new welfare queens” and asserted, “They have dependents. We have babies.”

But certain agendas get even more bizarre and accusatory: The conservative Whistleblower magazine, in its March issue, includes a story about how Obama might be “stealing” the 2012 election by using amnesty for illegal immigrants as a way to maintain power.

The president has also come under attack from pro-immigration groups and activists because nothing’s been done yet.

“What’s been missing,” said Frank Sharry, executive director of America’s Voice, a pro-immigration reform organization, “is a clear and public commitment from the president to use his political capital to advance reform this year as promised.”

Early this afternoon, Obama met with fourteen representatives at the White House at from the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda, the Catholic Church, the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees International Union and the National Immigration Forum, among others, according to Politico. He assured them he was dedicated to passing comprehensive immigration reform, thought it was unclear when that would happen.

At 3 p.m., Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) met with the president to discuss what they hope will be a bipartisan immigration reform bill. Obama will also discuss immigration when he meets with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus tonight.

Immigration Reform should be Easier this time, since the Deportation/E-Starvation Programs, have ignored the Fact that most of these good hard working “Humans” have been here for nearly 25 years , most of whom are Family Units consisting of “Legal” Citizen Children, whose lives have been ruined for no reason of their own, except for being born in the Greatest Country on Earth.

Fact: The U.S. Border Patrol used to maintain Water Stations in the U.S. Desert to help these Immigrants get here!

Fact: January 2008 = Start of I.C.E. Deportation/E-Starvation Programs.

Fact: January 2008 = Start of the “Worst Recession in U.S. History.”

Fact: This is No Co-incidence!

Fact: All States that Deported or Starved away their hard working Tax Base, as counted all along by the U.S. Census as “Citizens to base the size of our Government Services on, are now in Total Economic Disaster!

Fact: These States are now having to Reduce Government Services to match their now smaller Tax Base!

Fact: These Immigrants now vacated dwellings Triggered the Crash of our Banking System, and Burst the “Real Estate Bubble.”

Fact: This Recession would have been a full blown Depression had two Presidents not Dumped Trillions of Borrowed Deficit Dollars in to our Economy since the Deportation began in January 2008.

Fact: This Deficit Dumping has only been “Treating the Symptoms!”

Fact: America was Built of Immigrants, both legal and many ilegal, and Far Better Principles than how these Immigrants and their children have been treated since January 2008!

A wise 1840's French Historiansaid: America is great, because it is good, when it ceases to be good, it ceases to be great.

To those saying “No Amnesty”, I hope your maker allows you a little!

To: Prosperity/Good and Brotherhood.

The 1986 the legislators promised the American people, that there would never be another AMNESTY

At least that's what the late Ted Kennedy proclaimed? But we all know the government or its public servants, never tell the truth. So here we go again, pushing for another AMNESTY of even more mind numbing proportions. Outside of the fact that millions more will try to gain entrance to America's doors, before any kind of AMNESTY takes effect? Where are they going to get the money for processing? The millions that are here? The millions that will keep on coming? The Criminals will stay in the shadows, those who are deportable will not be processed. Whatever new enforcement is enacted, it is never going to work. Because its–NEVER–meant to work–or even enforced? The fence was never meant to be a real deterrent. ITS ALL ONE MONOLITHIC LIE. .That's what's happened to our country? The liberal, far-left socialist in the Democratic party has seen to that. Its even scary to think of the–BILLIONS–of dollars will be pried by the IRS, to support those already here and the millions who will definately come.

Those illegal workers who think they have got past the E-Verify barriers, who think they have sneaked through. Better think again. ICE will return at certain intervals and recheck I-9s and audit those very companies again. E-Verify will be eventually a permanent tool, fully funded or the majority of the American people will want to know why? JUST DO NOT LET UP AT CAUSING YOUR POLITICIANS HEARTBURN AT 202-224-3121.
Don't forget to give a livid mouthful to your lawmakers in each state.

So hands up who has heard of the E2 Treaty Investor Visa ? Certainly, it seems very few in Washington have. Whilst everyone seems focused on the 10+ Million undocumented immigrants, there are over 100,000 small businesses in the US working hard every day with no pathway to legal permanent residency.

They have made an estimated $40 Billion in initial investment, make $50+ Billion in taxable turnover and employ close to a million US citizens. Small in numbers but large in impact. Yet no permanent residency for these upstanding folks. So lets hope that if this Comprehensive Immigration Reform happens, the people who have played by the rules and actually create jobs in the US get recognized. After all, with the security of Green Cards, they would probably expand their businesses and create even more jobs !!! I am one of them and I know I would.

Obama's gonna “steal the '12 elections” via reforming immigration? Fancy that! Yet another page he's borrowing from the Sainted Ronnie Raygun… I got my Green Card (married an American born an bred) fairly quickly but, my citizenship application had been hanging in limbo for *years* — “big backlog, sorry”.

Until St Ronnie thought about running for the second term…*Then*, my application went through the system faster than a dose of castor oil and I raised my hand in the oath on July 4th. Just in time to cast my vote (against the SOB; ketchup is *not* a suitable vegetable substitute) in November.

Those so-called “Pro-immigration reform advocates” are only promotting open borders and illegal immigration, into the USA.

There are no patriotic groups opposed to legal immigration, so implying patriotic groups are anti-immigrant is a lie perpetuated by the Communist insurgent National Council of La Raza (The Race). NCLR employs Communist propaganda tactics to hijack the press and influence Congress to pay $Millions in US Taxpayer dollars to the NCLR.

Definition of “illegal alien”

Case: Martinez v. Regents of U.C. 10/7/08 CA3

File: C054124.PDF
(Super. Ct. No. CV052064)

Appeals Court Justices: Sims, Raye and Hull

Page 3

Footnote 2
Defendants prefer the term “undocumented immigrants.” However,
defendants do not cite any authoritative definition of the term
and do not support their assertion that the terms “undocumented
immigrant” and “illegal alien” are interchangeable. We consider
the term “illegal alien” less ambiguous. Thus, under federal
law, an “alien” is “any person not a citizen or national of the
United States.” (8 U.S.C. § 1101(a)(3).) A “national of the
United States” means a U.S. citizen or a noncitizen who owes
permanent allegiance to the United States. (8 U.S.C. §
1101(a)(22).) Under federal law, “immigrant” means every alien
except those classified by federal law as nonimmigrant aliens.
(8 U.S.C. § 1101(a)(15).) “Nonimmigrant aliens” are, in
general, temporary visitors to the United States, such as
diplomats and students who have no intention of abandoning their
residence in a foreign country. (8 U.S.C. § 1101(a)(15)(F),
(G); Elkins v. Moreno (1978) 435 U.S. 647, 664-665 [55 L.Ed.2d
614, 627-628] [under pre-1996 law, held the question whether
nonimmigrant aliens could become domiciliaries of Maryland for
purposes of in-state college tuition was a matter of state
law].) The federal statutes at issue in this appeal refer to
“alien[s] who [are] not lawfully present in the United States.”
(8 U.S.C. §§ 1621(d), 1623.) In place of the cumbersome phrase
“alien[s] who [are] not lawfully present,” we shall use the term
“illegal aliens.”

Fact September 11, 2001 Terrorists attack the USA Homeland, striking the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. The terrorists had planned to strike ten targets. Seven targets remain on their list.

Fact October 2004, some three years since 9/11 a newly formed coalition of US patriots announce plans to hold a month-long Border Watch, during April 2005.

Fact April 2005, about 300 US Patriots calling themselves The Minuteman Project, strapped on side arms, sat in lawn chairs, no less than 70 feet from the USA-Mexico border, and for 30 days, secured a 20-mile stretch against the illegal alien invasion.

Fact 2005 to 2006, while patriotic Americans conducted Border Watch operations, they were confronted by the SPLC, ACLU, NCLR, LULAC, MALDEF, M.E.Ch.A., O.R.G.A.N.I.C. Collective, A.N.S.W.E.R., and other Communist scum that crawled out from the underworld.

Fact Since attracting attention to the ills of the illegal alien invasion and thwarting the de facto colonization, American patriots have stood up on our own. We have faced the evil invaders and forced government actions that are deporting them.

We are still here, we won't stop, until the illegals are gone home, and we will remove any politicians in our way.

Seems they did not learn their lesson from the Reagon years. Even Reagan admitted amnesty was a hugh mistake. And he regretted it. If an amnesty is passed the word will get out to every third world country. And soon we will have millions more coming here besides the ones already here. If this keeps up we will all be starving to death. And running out of water. Our schools and hospitals are already folding up with the overload. Soon our highways will be in complete gridlock. Plus there are already not enough jobs to go around. What are we going to do, put these new citizens on a street corner with a cardboard sign and a tin cup? Have them sign up for welfare or unemployment when both are already going broke?

oe Legal vs. Jose Illegal

You have 2 families, Joe Legal and Jose Illegal.
Both families have (2) parents, (2) children and live in California.

Joe Legal works in construction, has a Social Security Number, and makes $25.00 per hour with payroll taxes deducted.

Jose Illegal also works in construction, has NO Social Security Number, and gets paid $15.00 cash “under the table.”

Joe Legal … $25.00 per hour x 40 hours = $1000.00 per week = $52,000 per year. Now take 30% away for state and federal tax. Joe Legal now has $31,231.00.

Jose Illegal … $15.00 per hour x 40 hours = $600.00 per week = $31,200.00 per year. Jose Illegal pays no taxes. Jose Illegal now has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays for Medical and Dental Insurance with limited coverage … $1000.00 per month = $12,000.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $19,231.00.

Jose Illegal has full Medical and Dental coverage through the state and local clinics
At a cost of $0.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal makes too much money to be eligible for Food Stamps or Welfare so Joe Legal pays for food… $1,000.00 per month = $12,000.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $7,231.00.

Jose Illegal has no documented income and is eligible for Food Stamps and Welfare. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays rent of $1,000.00 per month = $12,000.00 per year. Joe Legal is now in the hole -$4,769.00.

Jose Illegal receives a $500 per month Federal rent subsidy, which entirely pays his rent of $500.00 per month = $6,000.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal now works overtime on Saturdays and gets a part time job after work
to make ends meet.

Jose Illegal has nights and weekends off to enjoy with his family.

Joe Legal's and Jose Illegal's children both attend the same school.

Joe Legal pays for his children's lunches while Jose Illegal's children get free government sponsored lunches.

Joe Legal's children go home after school. Jose Illegal's children have an after school ESL program which, again, is provided free of charge.

Joe Legal and Jose Illegal both enjoy the same Police and Fire Services,
but Joe Legal paid for them, and Jose Illegal did not pay.

We should open the floodgates and let anyone who wants to come here legally, come here legally. But under a new visa that says they are not entitled to government handouts for the rest of their lives: if they agree, they can come, stay and work.

That seems like a compromise that both sides should be able to agree on. (except the actual xenophobes).

Im a carpenter and had a good business for years, I hired alot of younger men working their way through school and some chose it as a career. now Im trying to compete with aliens who all live in one house, drive to work in one truck, eat lunch and dinner out of one pot, and send their few dollars they make out of country( Mexico) I dont fault these men for trying to better their lives but they are putting alot of tax paying americans out of work, and young people working their way through school and trying to start their lives and develope independance and direction. Not only in the trades but in the corporate world as well, you get one person sponsoring imigrants to this country and then they work for this sponsor for next to nothing for years and are being taken advantage of! I really dont know what our gov. is thinking, it almost seems like they want the country to fail! We have the greatest country in the world and we are letting our SELF SERVING GOV sell us down the river. This country has never been so close to falling in history and I dont see anybody trying to stop it, or even acknowledging the fact that we are IN TROUBLE.GOD BLESS AMERICA because Gods the only one who could save us now. How can our leaders do this to us, I was hoping Obama would start but hes no better than the rest, as a matter of fact he scares the hell out of me, sometimes he sounds like hes from another country and he dosnt think much of America?????

It is so obvious there is deliberate effort to confuse legal immigrants with illegal aliens. Americans are not against legal immigration, they are against the invasion for our country by mostly from south of our border.
We don't need immigration reform. We have excellent immigration laws in place. What we need is government reform. We need a government that will enforce all our laws including our immigration laws and a government that will protect our borders.
We had amnesty for lawbreakers in 1986 and it only brought more illegal aliens and no immigration law enforcement.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. NO IMMIGRATION REFORM and NO AMNESTY to lawbreakers!

When will he meet with people representing the 15 million unemployed American workers looking for ANY job to feed and shelter their families? Why does he let 8 million felon illegal aliens hold American jobs by using stolen Social Security numbers of Amrican children and adults, using fraudulent and/or forged IDs, lying on I-9 forms and evading income taxes? Why is he allowing thousands of American families to be separated for eternity by the deaths caused by illegal aliens in DUIs and murders? How many hundreds of thousnds of Americans must be raped and/or molested before he will enforce our laws and act to reverse the invasion and occupation of our country by illegal aliens? The mandated southern border fence is only 200 miles long. When will the other 1,700 miles becompleted?

Most of you are arrogant ignorant pricks. Read up on the subject. 2/3 of illegals pay taxes and yes the ones you pay around this time of year, the social security and welfare taxes, and in a way all of them do. What do you call the lil 7% that you pay when you buy anything.
The Congressional Budget Office and the Social Security Administration recognizes that why don't you…wait i covered that already, ignorance and lack of reading skills probably.
To the people that complain about there not being jobs and how illegals steal them. There are plenty, its just none that you want and they gladly take. Once again ignorance claims another victim, i wish some people would be as smart as me.

Hello – I think you're missing the key word here – they're “illegal” i.e. they broke the law. Foreigners who don't respect our laws, no matter whether or not they agree with them, have no right to be here. If you want to immigrate to America, follow our laws, starting with getting in line to come into the country “legally”. There are several legal immigrants who have persevered through this, even if they did not like or agree with our immigration laws.

Unfair discriminatory practice at University of Michigan

All our family members have been legal residents of Michigan; living and working here for more than a decade. Even without US citizenship or green card status we have fulfilled all of our residential responsibilities such as paying income, sales and property taxes. We own a home in Michigan and contribute to our community regardless of our citizenship status.

In the last three years we have been repeatedly disappointed, each time our son’s in-state residency application was denied by the University of Michigan. We feel strongly discriminated against and unfairly penalized by being required to pay three times higher college tuition than any other student with parents who live in Michigan.

The U of M, as a public university, should discontinue the unfair practice of classifying legal residents by their visa status; disregarding their legal rights and economical contribution to the state and the country.
We request your help in shedding light on this unfair discriminatory practice. We would additionally appreciate your support in convincing the U of M to improve its existing residency guidelines to be fair and objective.

Hope under you and our efforts, all those students like my son can be treated fairly as human with feeling in Michigan, USA.

Maybe before you judge people who come here illegally, you should consider the REASON they come here to begin with. Many families come here to escape death, rape, and disease. We have no control as to what country we are born into. The waiting list to come here legally can be years long; some people don't have that kind of time. If the safety of my family was on the line, I'd cross a border illegally too. I do agree that some people come here for the “benefits” such as better health care, possibly welfare or other government assistance, which is not okay. But what about Americans who live their lives on welfare? Live their whole lives in low income housing? Who have children simply to get more $$ on their tax returns? Is it ok simply because they were born here? If you feel so strongly about having immigrants deported, maybe we should deport the Americans who do the same. As far as you feeling they should be deported simply because they've broken a law by being here illegally, perhaps we should also deport any American who has broken a law. If an illegal immigrant has committed a horrible crime, then go ahead and deport them. But for those of them who have not, and who DO pay taxes, have jobs, have their own insurance…what would be the point of deporting them? Have a little compassion. And before you jump to the extreme end of the issue..”let's just toss 'em out!”…try to figure out why people do what they do. Usually there are understandable reasons.

And as I just said, have a little COMPASSION. We are all human despite our nationality.

Well I believe that giving illegal immigrants a green card or us citisenship is the worst mistake ever. My reasons are:
1. live in low income apartments and make more than 2,000 per month (get paid under the table and don`t report it)
2.have kids just so dut when the time for taxes come they can get money back oh and don`t forget welfare
3.see how the economy is? well they`re taking the jobs away from people that are legal
4.they never pay taxes
and about the comment that some people are ignorant well illegals dont pay taxes and yes they do take the jobs others need ok?
if they want to come here do it as every other legal immigrants do and what makes them so especial that thinking that they deserve better just because they`re illegal? they just cant come and ask for a greencard and get just like that and if they pass the bill then how is the US different from any other country? Im sorry but I`m against it (if illegals take advantage imagine when they become legal?)

Why don't you apply for legal residency then?

Jose, you lie. I worked in the Maricopa County Medical Center (including 13 outlying clinics and the county jails) for 10 years and they were and are full of illegal immigrants. None of them ever pay for the services they receive.

people say the illegal’s are hear to take the jobs that we no longer want but the FACT is that less than 5 percent of illegal’s who are in the US work in the fields.

The are hear hanging drywall, pouring concrete and working in factories. Millions of Americans who are out of work would take these jobs in a heartbeat. Yes it would cost a little more for these goods and services with Americans working them but we are paying billions to have Americans on well fare, unemployment and so on because they cannot find a job in the first place. Illegals are making poor people poorer and that is a fact!!!!
Oh yah if illegal’s are suddenly able to become citizens or even just residents, they now have the right to collect healthcare benefits!!!!! Social security, unemployment, welfare and so on. Lets face the FACT, they make low wages so they will qualify for these benefits and the bill to fund the programs will go up and up and up

lets be real!!!! Americans are out of work and 8 million jobs are occupied by illegals. lets not call it immigration reform, lets call it a jobs bill

cuze me Maria;;for adding my two cents to your reconquesta arguement,,
so what your saying is the white man should have no guilt for stealing the usa, because the mexicians stole it first from the indians? so basically the USA either bought stolen property, or fought a war and won it..let me see now you will jump between your spanish background or your mexician whichever shows you in a better light in history..WRONG the north american Indians fought three wars with Santa Anna to keep mexicians south …After his return to Mexico, Santa Anna participated in the Mexican War and in 1853 sold territory to the United States including that area known as the Gadsden Purchase.
