Senate Support Growing for Public Option Via Reconciliation

It began two days ago as a four-senator campaign urging Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to tap the budget reconciliation process to create a public health insurance plan that would compete against private companies. Now 16 upper-chamber Democrats have signed their names in support of that strategy, according to the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, a liberal group that launched the campaign. Names follow after the jump:

Democratic Sens. Michael Bennet (Colo.), Barbara Boxer (Calif.), Dianne Feinstein (Calif.), Sherrod Brown (Ohio), Roland Burris (Ill.), Al Franken (Minn.), Kirsten Gillibrand (N.Y.), John Kerry (Mass.), Frank Lautenberg (N.J.), Jack Reed (R.I.), Sheldon Whitehouse (R.I.), Pat Leahy (Vt.), Bernie Sanders (Vt.), Jeff Merkley (Ore.), Barbara Mikulski (Md.) and Tom Udall (N.M).

Ah, there's that dopey Sen Sherrod Brown, or the WRONG Brown as I refer to him since MA, in with the extremist progressive element again! I keep e-mailing him with the view that he is too progressive for OH, but he doesn't get it. Ohio is NOT a progressive type state! We are constantly rebelling at the suggestion of more taxes. Only unions and ACORN can explain Brown's position as an OH senator. Forget it; the voters have spoken, and will speak harshly in November to Democrats, if they use reconciliation. And it will NOT take much to un-do all that mess since it will have been done in that process.

Sherrod Brown is my senator and we here in Ohio couldn't possibly be more proud of him, from his anti NAFTA pro blue collar working class positions, to his recognition that the Public Option is overwhelmingly popular (70+% support here in Ohio!)

Soon Sec. of State Brunner will be our 2nd senator and we'll have the best senate delegation in the country!
