Palin Meets the Press

The Sun-Sentinel reports on former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s visit to the Daytona 500, and her response to a reporter’s political question.

When asked what a trip to a swing state like Florida does for her political ambitions, the former Alaska governor said, “Haven’t thought a darn thing about the politics of this. I’m thinking about this good, active, speed-loving event that a lot of Alaskans, too, are really into. We’ve got our snow-machine races up there, and this is, of course, on a much greater scale, same type of sport though, same type of breath-taking, speed-loving, All-American event that we like to see up north.”

Who the heck cares what Palin pumkin head thinks. She isn't worth writing about and we all wish you would stop reporting her every move.

Sarah is totally awesome – she's a small town, heartland values kind of gal. And by small town, I mean a place just like < href=”http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vpZnT_unZs”>Centerville*

*or Glendale; they're pretty much interchangeable

Or like the lovely Norman Rockwell vision found in Tom Lehrer's wistful tribute to his birthplace:

I really have a yen
To go back once again,
Back to the place where no one wears a frown,
To see once more those super-special just plain folks
In my home town.

No fellow could ignore
The little girl next door,
She sure looked sweet in her first evening gown.
Now there's a charge for what she used to give for free
In my home town.

I remember dan, the druggist on the corner, 'e
Was never mean or ornery,
He was swell.
He killed his mother-in-law and ground her up real well,
And sprinkled just a bit
Over each banana split.

The guy that taught us math,
Who never took a bath,
Acquired a certain measure of renown,
And after school he sold the most amazing pictures
In my home town.

That fellow was no fool
Who taught our sunday school,
And neither was our kindly parson brown.
We're recording tonight so I have to leave this line out.
In my home town.

I remember sam, he was the village idiot.
And though it seems a pity, it
Was so.
He loved to burn down houses just to watch the glow,
And nothing could be done,
Because he was the mayor's son.

The guy that took a knife
And monogrammed his wife,
Then dropped her in the pond and watched her drown.
Oh, yes indeed, the people there are just plain folks
In my home town.

Ah, Tom Lehrer, what a sharp mind – maybe a little perverse at times, but witty and funny as hell (IMHO).

Unfortunately, I'm afraid this most excellent small town tribute would earn Mr. Lehrer a banning by First Dude from all of Sarah's pressers.

It's an unjust world.

Leave it to the fraud/racist/liar/prostitute/hypocrite/general twit to compare snow-machine racing to Nascar.

I personally like snow-machine racing, though. If you crash, the whole world is your airbag. Nascar is about crunching metal and skidding rubber. I really don't see a valid comparison. That Palin does, likens her thinking to corporate attitudes.

Small town, indeed.

Well now, she quit being that governor s she could get paid lots of money so now she can just fly herself around anywhere her little heart desires. Gee, maybe she took her kids to Disney World!

I had his entire oeuvre memorized by the time I was five.

This explains a great deal about me.
