Draft Senate Bill Includes 3-Month Unemployment Benefits Extension
Tuesday, February 09, 2010 at 6:52 pm
It’s just an early version — or so the Democrats are saying — but Senate leaders appear to be that much closer to extending the filing deadline for unemployment insurance (which expires Feb. 28) through the end of May.
The additional three months are half what the House passed in December, and an even further cry from the seven months included in the White House budget, not to mention the 10 months being advocated by a number of Senate Democrats. Still, this would prevent roughly 1.2 million Americans from exhausting their benefits in March.

While it would prevent those who haven't received 99 weeks from being cut off, it does nothing for those who will be receiving their 99th week next month!
Comment posted February 9, 2010 @ 11:51 pm
It just extends the deadline, not the tiers… so if they are in the last tier, they won't qualify for anything else… but if you are on your first or second tier and run out of benefits before the extended deadline then you move on to the next tier…

They don't care about the people falling off the unemployment rolls. All the long term unemployed that lose their benefits this month will make the unemployment numbers look better for the administration, and will show the American people that the bill has and is working. They don't count those who fall off unemployment benefits as unemployed in the numbers.
If you think for one second they care about people becoming homeless and hungry, you are living in a fantasy. It's all about making the majority of people think your doing a good job with the issue at hand.

There getting better not because people are finding jobs, but because they no longer qualifing for unemployment and have dropprd off the grid.More people without jobs but less to count.Wait til after Feb.28th, the numbers will look great.

Why just a couple of months ago was the outcry by Democrats that it was imperative that an additional tier for the long term unemployed be established due to the absence of available jobs and now no mention of these same people facing the fate of losing any means of survival? Adding an additional tier passed the senate unanimously in November and now it's as if none of these people exist anymore. How could the Senate vote unanimously for the addition of an additional tier for the long term unemployed and 90 days later not even acknowledge their existent. Did someone tell them that we all lucked out and found gainful employment over the last 90 days? They even demanded that the unemployed in states that didn't meet the 8.5% unemployment threshold be included in receiving benefits. Now they will qualify for benefits at least until the end of May and possibly longer while the long term unemployed have evidently all died or are gainfully employed in the eyes of every single Senator, in light of their unanimous vote to save the long term employed. Talk about FLIP FLOPPING! I am relieved the docs will get theirs. Hopefully one of them will give me a job so I can eat.

There are hundreds of thousands of unemployed that are recieving more in Cobra subsidies alone that equal more than the total I receive in unemployment benefits. My employer that laid me off did not provide any healthcare benefits to full time employees unless they were in management. They did not offer it period. Not even as an employee full pay of premiums. Even if they had provided health insurance I would not have had an opportunity to take advantage of the Cobra subsidy program because it did not exist when I was laid off.Seems like I should be able to receive the 60% subsidy to at least be able to try to obtain some form of coverage on my own. My state caps unemployement benefits at $320 per week no matter your income level at the time you are laid off. Those recieving unemployment and the Cobra subsidy have and will receive at the very least twice the dollar amounts in benefits than I have and yet I will be without any means of support at the end of the month. I will no longer exist despite being a real cheap date during my stint of unemployment. GREAT JOB Senators, all your squabbling over the past year and half and here I sit. No healthcare, NO JOB and soon no viable means of support. Simply genius, all of you.

If true, this is appalling. The question is, is Congress ready to endure the sight of new Hoovervilles on the Capital Mall?

The unemployed do not realize the power they have if only they would all join toghether. There are millions across this nation. Think what a powerhouse they would be if they would get organized sort of like the Unions do. Get a website and ask for donations. Say $5. or $10 bucks coming from thousands of people that could add up. And could be used to keep a website up and pay for postage and phone bills used to contact Congress. Then get someone who is good at lobbying and send them to DC to fight for your rights. If Congress sees you are an organization comprised of millions of people then they will take notice. And start doing something for you. If only some individual contacts his reps that does not mean much to them. Big numbers of people is what it takes. Then ask some Congressman to sponsor a bill that will change this whole unemployment system around. This giving out a few measly weeks of benefits that are soon gone. And then waiting for Congress to decide if they will give a few more weeks is crazy. Meanwhile everyone is winding up in the street while they are waiting.

Our do nothing Senate-amazing..here we are at the 11th hour with the expiration of the current EUC Laws and once again plenty of money for porkulus and a possible 3 month extension for the unemployed with zero new benefit tiers. What part of the unemployment problem do our elected voice not get? I am in total agreement with “lostjobs” comment on the unemployed in this Country getting unified and organized…where do I sign up? I bring much to the table-as my working skills could be utilized in this endeavor as it is pretty clear I won't be working for an employer any time soon. Since our elected voice in DC does not get the sheer number of unemployed in this Country-perhaps we all need to take it to the street and let them know we are here and they are accountible! Fall and the elections can not get here fast enough!

I'll be getting my last two weeks of EUC benifits this next week. I'm 59 years old and have worked in the construction industry building homes for over twenty years. There are no jobs of this type in this area of Florida. Any other jobs that I might be able to do are knee deep in applicants much younger than me. I'm trying to understand what further benefits might be coming to myself and thousands of other folks like myself. I thought EUC was tier three. I see mention of tier four and now see people pushing for tier five. Does anyone have a line on this and can explain it in detail? Thank You

Do you believe this money is just laying around to pay unlimited UE or til you find jobs to you liking? BOTTOM LINE – its expensive! What you need to do is stop believing all the misleading stories about more tiers coming and the clueless cheerleaders that want indefinite payments.
Comment posted February 10, 2010 @ 11:26 am
Loren,
EUC tier 4, is an additional 6 weeks of unemployment benefits if your state has reached the magical number of 8.5% unemployment. EUC is used after you have used all of your state benefits, and you have exhausted your tier 3 benefits. However all of these programs will end on February 28th, if congress does not pass new legislation to extend the programs.
The problem with the new legislation that they are trying to pass is that it does not extend the EUC tiers for those who have been unemployed long term. It only allows the short termed unemployed to get access and use the entire tier system. Anyone who has been unemployed long term will be able to exhaust their tiers (if they are on tier 3 or 4). After that will not receive any benefits because the new legislation does not extend tiers.
So if you are on tier 3, and your state does not have an 8.5% unemployment rate, you will lose all of your benefits after the money is exhausted. If you are lucky to be in a state that is over 8.5% (which really is not lucky for job searching) then you will receive tier 4, which is an additional 6 weeks. Once the money is exhausted, you will receive no more benefits.
Hope that cleared it up a little.

I too am running out of unemployment. Have been with out for a few months, but luckily just made it back in by the skin of my teeth. I will just be starting the tier 3 for another 6 weeks in the nick of time. Living like this is very stressful. I have done the college thing and been looking for all types of work. I never hear back after I apply. We really should call as many papers as we can to get more help.

LUCKY!! Since when is high UE being lucky. Stop the cheerleading for indefinite checks. If that is how you look at collecting UE, the higher it goes the longer I can get payed, well then don't expect any understanding or consideration when you're viewed as milking the system.
Comment posted February 10, 2010 @ 11:53 am
I'm so sick of hearing things like that from people! Oh..you just want a handout…there's no money left…bla bla blah…Have ANY of you who call people lazy or want indefinite handouts ever actually looked at the taxes being taken out of your check for the last…hmm….every single paycheck you’ve ever gotten?!? Decades of money from workers…ALL workers, have gone into unemployment…just to get back $300-$400 a week for a year or two while they pick up the pieces of their shattered life, while barely being able to afford anything, especially insurance…and you think they are lazy? What about those lovely Politicians…gotta love the Republican scandals of milking the system for their friends (how about all those Chaney contractors n Iraq? Halliburton?) And some of you think Obama is to blame? What about 8 years of lies? Lies from the Gov’t, Bernie Madoff, Wall Street, Blackwater, Halliburton… Billions and billions (AND BILLIONS) of dollars to fight these wars so that the big guys can make lots and lots of money. But how dare the American people ask for help when THEY NEED IT because they were fired from their job…because wall street and the wars sucked their money down a black hole. So now we moan to the American people for wanting to pay their rent? Feed their kids? Pay the heating bill?
WTF is wrong with this country? Why the sour attitudes toward the HARD WORKING AMERICANS who have little to be happy about or hope for, after paying Medicaid, Medicare taxes, Unemployment wages for 20-30 years & no return when you need it?
I say give everyone their money back from all those years…then we'll see who the lazy crooks really are

For those that are worried about the cost of extending the tier program for the long termed unemployed…
Consider this: We pay 1.3 billion per day just to pay off the INTEREST of our national debt. Extending the EUC program would be a drop in the bucket compared to what we are spending on a daily basis. The EUC is an investment during these hard economic times, not just another bill for the American taxpayer.
1) Investing in it would prevent the loss of critical spending that the unemployed will lose. Contrary to what people might think, the unemployed don't spend the money on wild vacations, or unneeded items (unemployment doesn't pay well). They invest that money back into paying bills, buying groceries, and purchasing fuel to go out and find a job. All of these help keep the economy stimulated while in a recession atmosphere.
2) It will also prevent the loss of more homes/property. The last thing we need is more losses in the housing market, and losses to small business.
3) It will keep some people from being put in the position of becoming homeless. Someone that becomes homeless is not only a bad thing for the individual, but for the entire country as well. These people will have no choice but to use social services that we all pay for in the end.
Helping people stay in their homes, giving them an opportunity to find a job, and keeping our economy going should warrant the extension of the EUC. The alternative can be much worse.

I'm not against you. I'm sensing the mood from the people you need to have supporting you is getting hard to come by. Doesn't seem fair I know but, what is? If that 300-400 you speak of is you're main cash flow during all of this, then you obviously had problems before all of this.
Oh BTW…that kind of ranting doesn't help your situation. All types of people read this stuff — if you know what I mean.

Our elected Representatives are cowards! Why?
They are “tip-toeing” around the need of the unemployed!
Passing a two month extension in Dec 2009 and doing the same wimpy move in Feb 2010 is a sign of covering their back. It is all political!
The need to admit we are at least 1 to 2 years away from providing jobs for the unemployed. Giving the false impression that every 2-3 months they will address extending unemployment benefits is weak politics.
Because there maybe a small amount of unemployed not looking for a job, does not represent the 95% who are desperately searching for jobs. It is like one spoiled apple spoils it for the rest. Get a backbone and bite the bullet and do what is right and extend the unemployment for 2010 and 2011. They can not believe in 3 months millions will be employed!!!!

Oh give me a break, I was just trying to show that some people are losing unemployment benefits and that in some cases it is a double edged sword. Don't be so dramatic. You know exactly what I meant. You are just here trolling because you have nothing better to do with your life. You and people like you are the reason this country is so screwed up. You try and stop people from free speech without contributing any real facts, or helping in any way possible. People like you are a dime a dozen.

No, in your case you did mean lucky as opposed to if your state is below 8.5 your are not qualified for whatever extended benefits and their luck has run out. I'm not stopping anybody or anything, but I will call out people that distort things or want others to think their situation is worse. And it seems you like to blame others, but thats typical on these boards

And the BTW stuff? What is that…some sort of “code” for the big-wigs-read-this-stuff-too-sooooo be careful? Ha! Like I care, seriously!

Yeah, some people are lucky that they are getting an extra 6 weeks to keep them afloat. Many people are still trying to find a job that are in states with an unemployment rate below 8.5%. That doesn't mean that everyone is lucky for being on unemployment. No one is! You want to twist that around so it looks like everyone is asking for a handout? Give me a break.
The fact is you could care less about people about to become homeless, or losing everything they own. You show no facts in any of your posts, and have no understanding of the economy in general. You don't look or comment on any of the facts of what happens to these people once the lose benefits. You just spend all your time with the same worthless rants, I am assuming mostly to make you feel better about yourself.
Every one of your posts shows exactly how uncaring, and uneducated you are. I pity you and the people that have to be around you.

I need to correct my earlier post. I do not know what I was thinking, possibly wishful. My state caps weekly unemployment benefits at $230.00 per week no matter what your income level when laid off. I think that's approximately $30.00 more than Puerto Rico. No disrespect to Puerto Rico but how much does the population contribute to the economy of this country? Having said that, so I suppose the long term unemployed are being left out due to lack of funds. As I said in my previous post, the average dollar amount spent to fund the 60% COBRA subsidy is probably equal to or greater than the total dollar amount I've received in unemployment. The unemployment fund was never set up to provide free medical insurance. I'm sure it has been beneficial for the unemployed who were fortunate enough to not only have employer paid medical benefits but were also laid off later in the recession when the COBRA subsidy law was enacted. All I'm saying is the COBRA funds have to be costing an arm and a leg considering the cost of healthcare and now there are no funds to provide for the basic necessities for the long term unemployed. It just does not make sense to me.

Oh yes…and in response to your, shall we say”diggs” into my life and how I “live” off of other people.. Here's an FYI: I'm fine on my UE, haven't even left the 26 week mark… in fact I was able to save enough from my regular job prior to losing it…so I have my rent paid for a few months (I did mention I made the money, right? just checking)… had to use some of my savings…it was a major bummer, I can tell you that…so if you think that is “living off of other people” than you should seek treatment.
You see, Mr Mack…if I may call you that…. Between my cobra insurance payment, food, bills…and some spending money (sometimes a whole 20 bucks for the entire weekend!) I am barely able to get by on UE until I find a job. My whole “rant” as you call it, was actually to stick up for…hold on for this: other people…you know, who have it even worse than I do. If I'm barely making it, what are they going through? Maybe they “had problems before all of this” as you pointed out in your last “rant”. If they don't get an extension because certain politicians have a bug up their butt and can't get their act together, I will say something…and it's not all about me, but many people, like yourself seem unfamiliar with this concept.
Oh and…BTW…my friends own a cute little corner store and needed to hire someone for a whopping $8 an hour…put an ad out there, used the internet, ya know “advertised”…
They got 4,000…4 THOUSAND applications. Yeah. So…ummm..yeaaaaaah…about that….

Here we go again. Wake me up in four months when the unemployment benefits may actually be extended, but not before about two million people lose them and are out on the streets. These cngressional hypocrites eventually will realize any rise in the GDP was caused solely by UE benefits putting ,oney into the hands of the unemployed, so watch the economy go splat again bigtime.

Well they have the Tea Party…sounds like it's time for the Unemployed Party, if the Tea Party can stop health care reform we should be able get EUC extended.
Comment posted February 10, 2010 @ 3:22 pm
I do not if this will help in regards to unemployed people not able to afford health care. I am in New York and thru the state they provide what they call Healthy NY, or Child Plus programs..and has to qualify based on income, which it seems that anyone collecting unemployment would qualify. Or soon for those not able to get any more unemployment at least able to get health coverage, because when they do not extend the benefits, many will become sick when ends up living under bridges in the cold and not able to buy food. So, warn the hospitals that a wave of soon to be sick people will be arriving. At the the doctors, nurses will have more job security. Have they even extended the benefit? I am went thru the first 26 weeks and I guess soon to run out of the short tier. I do not even know if I qualify for the next tier..I guess tier 2?
Food pantry, hospitals prepare yourselves.

I have had a job since I was 16 years old (I am now 38) and prior to being laid off last March have never collected a dime of unemployment benefits. Although I am extremely grateful that there have been as many extensions as there have been- I am not still collecting unemployment benefits because I felt like taking a break from the workforce or because I am lazy, I have done everything short of practically begging employers for a job. I have applied to positions in which I am extremely overqualified for and offered to work for wages that are far, far below my pre-recession income and I still cannot even secure part time or temporary work. I lay awake most nights until 2, 3 even 4 in the morning terrified that my unemployment benefits are going to dry up before I can secure a job- any job. The recovery of the economy depends on people getting back to work.

I live in indiana and i cant find a job anywhere and our unemployment is 10%.I just dont understand why they wait till the last minute to do anything and keeping us on pins and needles wondering what we are going to do.Not knowing if we have a place to live or not.And one thing that really burns my ass is why do they have to send a shuttle up every month when it cost millions of dollars to do.I love my country but we have put our economy in the shape its in and by me saying that is all the money over the years we have gave to other countries and have not got back, giving these companies tax breaks by hiring all the immagrants which has takin jobs from americans. The company i got laidoff from has i would say 35% indians,35% hispanic ( which 3/4 of them cant speak english ) and the other 30% is black and white. Quit horing immagrants and hire americans

What else gets me is these companies say they dont disgriminate which i filled out an app on line and got a response back saying i was what they were looking for so they set up a one on one interview.I have drove all kinds of forklifts for 30+ years i am 53 so when i went to the interview the supervisor made the comment…2 jobs in 3 years i said yes because i had to go through a temp agency to get on at that place. He said well i have had my job for 17 years. I wanted to say well good for you you are lucky you didnt get laidoff. Then he started asking me so what did you do after you got out of high school i thought what the hell does that have to do with the job that was 35 years ago. And the company that i got laidoff from just opened in indiana in 2006 and dec.12 2008 they laidoff 95 of us on second shift which was all of second shift. So who did they call back….hispanic and indians. They have to employ so many pf them or they lose their tax break

I lost my unemployment already with no luck at finding a new job. It's a spit in the face to go from making 800 a week to 350 a week. I worked hard and moved up the ladder and the economy ruined all of that. Just found this blog homecashcrop.com and I'm going to try to do some of the stuff it lists on there, but I dunno how that'll turn out. It would be nice for a little help from the government.

Mack are you really that damn stupid. The company had told us that in order for them to get their tax break of a million dollars for one they had to hire 300 people and for two they had to hire so many imagrents so it couldnt be classified as disgrimination. And evidently you havent worked around them much pr you would know alot of them are just there for the paycheck. And when they sit there and tell you that the are using someone elses s.s. Number to work here in the U.S. And the company knows they are amd they just over look it what does that say.alot of these companies would rather keep someone that is here illegally than keep an american. And why is that?Because they know they cant say anything because they will get deported.thats just how it is where I live

I lost my job through no fault of my own when the economy went south. It's a spit in the face to move up the ladder and then go from making $800 a week to $350 before taxes. My benefits recently ran out and I've still had no luck finding a job. I urge anyone like me to go to homecashcrop.com or some other money blog and find ways to make some supplement income. This is the only thing keeping me afloat. It's not much, but it's been a life saver. We need more than just an extension for the short term.

What a joke

You know this administration of Obama's is still whinning about the bad economic conditions passed on to him by Bush. “Snap out of it!” That is So over a year ago. Obama and the progressives have wasted the last year trying to Ram unwanted healthcare down our throats. Thank God for Scott Brown. Wake up and realize that this mess falls souly on the shoulders of the Dems and Obama now. Prepare for massive voter turn out come November. I predict Obama will be a one term wonder. Lets face it, if unemployment is not continued for those whom need it, Mad Max conditions could occur.A million plus voter march on D.C. could come about with the slogan, “How's that Hope and Change thing working out for you?” Things do manifest themselfs like that Snow Job Washington has been pushing is now finally piled up there.
Comment posted February 11, 2010 @ 8:22 am
So far, the one's that say “go get a job” seem to be out of touch with reality. I for one, don't think ANYONE would want to put themselves thru the constant daily stress of trying to feed a family, keep a roof over their heads, and gas in the car to beat the pavement hunting for a job if there were ones available. There are none in ANY salary range. Nothing is more depressing than to hear that you are overqualified to work in McDonalds! And to add insult to injury employers are willing to wait until the tax credits from the new Job Bill become active before they start to hire again, and that is if they do.
In coverage of the JOBs bill, Fox News reviewed a recent stimulus contract that will bring jobs to approximately 300 US workers for a construction project building a wind farm in Texas. The interesting thing is that 2,000 Chinese workers will be hired to manufacture the actual wind turbines, leaving unemployed wind makers in the US in the cold. That's a slap in the face, but it shows where the jobs are and who sent them there. The American people can't recover with odds like that.
How about we ban illegal immigrants from getting jobs, educations, and health benefits? How about all the companies, like the cellphone carriers, bring back the jobs that they moved overseas? How about the government stop giving the rich tax breaks so the middle class doesn't have to pay their share of taxes as well as their own? Maybe then people can come here and say “get a job” and have it ring true. Until then, comments like that just show that our nation has serious issues with the morality of morons.
Comment posted February 11, 2010 @ 9:45 am
And you believed that? Getting tax breaks to hire illegals? I'm sure you heard that somewhere and it fits your way of thinking. Man you won't get past anything thinking like that. By the way there is no tax breaks for for bringing in immigrants for labor type work and certainly not for hiring illegal workers. You might want to move if its that rough on you. But if it makes you feel better go ahead blame it on a certain type workforce…but believe me they're not thinking about you.
Comment posted February 11, 2010 @ 9:52 am

Predatory Lending is a major contributor to the economic turmoil we are currently experiencing.
Here is an example of what I am talking about:
Scott Veerkamp / Predatory Lending (Franklin Township School Board Member.)
Please review this information from U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley regarding deceptive lending practices:
“Steering payments were made to brokers who enticed unsuspecting homeowners into deceptive and expensive mortgages. These secret bonus payments, often called Yield Spread Premiums, turned home mortgages into a SCAM.”
The Center for Responsible Lending says YSP “steals equity from struggling families.”
1. Scott collected nearly $10,000 on two separate mortgages using YSP and junk fees. 2. This is an average of $5,000 per loan. 3. The median value of the properties was $135,000. 4. Clearly, this type of lending represents a major ripoff for consumers.

To The Mack your an idiot. Let me tell you mister go get a job. I am a highly educated person with a business degree. I have been working part-time since 2001 doing bookkeeping work and cleaning jobs. My husband worked at a factory for 22 years got a permanent lay off when the company closed with no retirement benefits.he received 300 dollars for 22 years of service. He was making 12 dollars an hour at that time . He managed to find another job at 10 dollars an hour in 2001. Only had that job for 6 months and got a permanent lay off again because of the recession. He found a job for 7.25 an hour removing sewer waste, fixing sewer pipes, insulating houses etc,, with no benefits. He then found a job and had that job for 6 years making 14 an hour with benefits, in August he got a permanent lay off again the man works hard, has a wonderful personality but has find himself in a very bad position every time the ecomony takes a dive. He's now working for 7.25 an hour with no benefits part-time which is the only thing he can find. We have never taken hand outs and certainly don't expect the goverment to help us forever but we don't have a choice. You make good money, working for yourself, it it's so wonderful how about giving the rest of us jobs at a descent wage we can live on? I'm not talking about getting rich just being able to live on that wage and be able to provide food and shelter for the family.

To the person who seems to have everything. Mr. Mac, you seem to have allot of useful information at your disposal that could be very useful to the rest of us. You may have started your business before this recession started. Lucky for you it seems to be recession proof. Do you think others could start their own business like yours now? If so are you willing to share the information? Do you wish to help your fellow American brothers and sisters in their time of need? Or, are you here to agitate good people while they are down and out? In this atmosphere, seems to me it's a form of terrorism. Like President Bush said, ” You are either with us or against us”. Which is it Mr. Mac?

Sorry to have to bring bad news folks. But I just learned Senate Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is paring back a jobs bill proposal mentioned earlier on Thursday by dropping an extension of unemployment insurance and COBRA health insurance subsidies for laid-off workers. The Senate is taking a break next week, so those things will have to wait until the end of the month — the last moment before the previous extension runs out. So according to Judy Conti, a lobbyist for the National Employment Law Project “State agencies are going to start sending out letters next week letting people know that their benefits are going to expire,
“
So,they say even though it's entirely likely that Congress will pass an extension before Feb. 28 — that is if they don't have another major blizzard — some people will nevertheless receive letters telling them they're not eligible for the next “tier” of benefits.

I am so glad this pork infested bill has been trashed! Not only because of the pork, but because the installed unemployment and cobra extensions that have now been taken out!
Hooray! Come Feb 28th none of the long term unemployed will get an extension to their unemployment and cobra benefits! It will no longer just be the the people running out of their final tier, it will be everyone's last tier! It will be nice to see a few million more panhandlers on the side of the street! Only this time, many will have their entire family including the children with them! Great job to both sides of the isle! I can't wait to see all of them jump on every social program that is offered, and still have no job to boot!
As a small business owner, I love the loss of business from these folks, and can't wait to see my property value drop again for all of their newly foreclosed houses! It will also be a win for the unemployment rate, as it should take a huge drop as these people will not be counted as unemployed any longer!
The government pays out 1.8 billion a day just to pay off interest for the deficit, yet we argue over one bill that could be paid off in 48 days with that money! I just would like to say, GREAT JOB TO BOTH REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS! You have made our country into something I really can be proud of!
Now where is my dollar store broom from China? I have to get ready to shoo away all the new homeless!

And don't give me that ” You are either with us or against us”. BS. Nobody was buying that bumpersticker crap to start with.

Loren,
I am glad that someone understood the context of what I was trying to say! I feel bad for all of the people that are about to lose benefits, and have written my congressman over and over again.
Sadly, I do not think he cares since his office keeps sending me the same standard email telling me they are working on it. They also keep sending me a link to a bill that has been dead since early last year.
The only thing I know anymore is that I refuse to vote Democrat or Republican any longer. As an independent voter, I refuse to make the choice of who will be better of the two parties. I think it's pretty obvious that the government is broken, with both major parties as corrupt as the other. Every one of them and their followers seem to care about nothing but themselves, and their agenda, and it is tearing our country to shreds.
It's time to stop this worthless anger and bickering over which party did what, and how all of our problems started. The only thing that gets done in congress is that they get more power and wealth. It's time to re-unite, kick these parties to the curb, and get down to business. We can all make compromises in the things we truly believe in if we really try! We all can't have exactly what we want, but we can get as much as possible if we work together!
That is why every party will have a chance for my vote now, except the Democrats, or the Republicans.

They just are a bunch of liars that are running this wonderful country of ours. No more, we need a change. No more lies from the Republicans & Democrats.

Seems to me we are in the perfect storm. Let us look at this recession in a different manner. The damage it is doing to this country is far worse than any hurricane or earthquake. Our government is poised to give aid to any country anywhere in the world now at a moments notice. What we have happening here are families losing their homes and jobs just as sure as if a hurricane or earthquake washed or crumbed them to the ground. It is not happening in just one area, but all across this country. For allot of folks it is completely demoralizing. We all have worked years to have just a little piece of land we can call our own, just to have it all taken away by others greed. Whole families torn apart just as if a tornado ripped through their lives. We the people need jobs and I see no plan to create jobs for the masses. With our highways and bridges crumbling, and every other utility in dire need of repair or upgrading there are thousands of jobs that could be turned over to the public. Why can't our leaders show some strength and get us all back on the road to prosperity? Where has all the money gone?
Comment posted February 12, 2010 @ 10:28 pm
The way Reid and the gang dropped their drawers, I'd hate to see what would have happened if we had lost the election. I guess a 59 to 41 majority isn't enough. Talk about an impotent bunch of cowards, I guess they forgot about the folks that voted for them.

Press Release 2-11-2010 Open Letter to – Mr Chairman,Charles B. Rangel, D NY-15 Ways and Means Committee – STOP TAXING UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS! – Write a Legislative reform bill for retroactive 2009 100% U/B tax free status like the one below. Let's not forget about those who have lost a job in 2009 and remember you, Chairman of the US Ways and Means committee can still help in a big way in 2010 with this new bill. Have you heard about the Jobless STUB Retro 2009 U/B Tax Free Act? STUB is like a paycheck stub and stands for STOP TAXING UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS. The new legislative reform bill needs your attention and will make all unemployment collected in 2009 tax free not just the current law deduction of an insane $2400 exemption (about 6 checks). You should consider passing this bill before April 15 2010 because 5.8 million have most of their income from unemployment compensation and didn't withhold in order to survive. Making the long term unemployed have an IRS tax liability is unjust and unsound in this economy. Next the unemployed will face collection and having a credit rating disaster. This bill needs to be endorsed and launched by you and will be a big life changer for millions who drew a lot of benefits and couldn't withhold. Remember a record 20 million collected some unemployment in 2009. Thanks from Carl Larson Executive Director at Unemployment Gone Mad and all of the Gone Mad activist community.

The last fifteen years I have been in the construction industry here in Florida. Go to SS online and read the requirements. You'll see how it works. They base some of the entitlement on your age, your job for the last fifteen years and the amount of employment opportunities in your area for your job skill. It took my wife two and a half years to get hers. It came in one big lump sum. They always turn you down the first time I'm told. You may have to get a ss lawyer. They collect a small percentage once you receive your benefits. You probably have already gotten the pamphlet in the mail a few times telling you how much you've paid in over the years and what your entitlement is. So it is worth checking out and getting the ball rolling. God luck!

loren I'm in the same boat except I have to wait a few days so my unemployment bank reads $0000.00 Then I cann see doctors to obtain documentation for social security. I've never had any medical insurance so I have to go this route to get them. Good luck to us, but I'd really rather be working if I could.

Tom, Yes I'd rather work until I'm 62. Was planning on taking the lesser $ amount anyway. I'm lucky in that I'm covered under my wife's insurance from the state. She worked for the state for 25 years. When she got her retirement disability from the state we moved to Florida. It then took two and a half years to get her ss disability. That was back in 2002. A totally different atmosphere than now. So I'm hoping like many the ssd will come through a little quicker and less painfully. We''ll get by, but it's so sad so many are losing everything they've worked most of their lives for.

Well looks like we're all in the same boat and it appears to be sinking, I'm 60 havent been able to find any work. my UP just ran out. I'm just hoping that I can figure out some way to make it till I'm 62 and there is still some SS left for me. Then planning to move to south America where at least I can live fairly well on that. This is not the America I was told it was, its run by a pack of thieves and liers. They sure can bail out their corporate sponsors no problem seem to have enough for the war industry but when it comes to the people we are left to the wolves “Land of the slaves home of the fee”

Hey guys,
I work for a state labor department and come in contact with a lot of employers, mostly HR type people. Communicated with an HR guy yesterday with Lowe's. He told me they were looking for people to help with their spring rush. If you guys are really interested in working, you need to register. You can register on line.

I wish, I've had an application in with Lowes for over a year. They don't have spring rushes around here. I have a good friend that works for Lowes and he keeps putting a good word in for me along with his FIFTY other good friends who are also out of work, let alone some of his relatives. What we need are long lasting sustainable jobs. Stop buying china made goods… buy American or do without!!!

Senator Jim Bunning, Republican of Kentucky, is still blocking the jobless aid – that will run out Sunday night unless a deal is reached Friday.
Senator Bunning complained he was forced to miss the Kentucky-South Carolina basketball game.
He said “Democrats caused their own problems by dropping the program extensions from an earlier bipartisan jobs measure.”
Is this Senator senile or something?
Or is he that callloused?
He isn't worried at all about the unemployed who are starving or losing their homes.
All he cares about is missing a basketball game.
What's more he doesn't care because he is not up for re-election.

Ask Senator Harry Reid of Nevada to force a closure vote on the 30 day benefit extension bill. Friday is the last day to vote on this bill before the February 28th dedline. For Reid to force cloture maybe the only way they will get this passed.
Then maybe Senator Jim Bunning Republican of Kentucky won't be able to block this bill.

You should not let the devil in on this page, we are all suffering and expecting a breakthrough from people who have jobs and seem to have no worries about how they are going to get by. So lets keep our comments as positive as we should and pray for the best. Much love and prayers from the “D” Detroit

I am currently unemployed from Dec 2008 from a part time job. My unemployment is currently exhausted. It appears they penalize part time workers both in the amount (totally understandable) but also in the time eligible. Prior to my part time job I worked full time for over 6 years full time. No one seems to want to hire a 55 year old woman…in fact it appears that this is the age group that is getting laid. Please pass another unemployment extension that clearly includes those of us who have exhausted our benefits. I carefully followed every guideline I was given.
