An Imminent Deal on Health Care?

So says CongressDaily’s Anna Edney, who reports that Rep. George Miller (D-Calif.), chairman of the House Education and Labor Committee, predicted today that the Democrats will have a merged bill to the Congressional Budget Office in a “couple days.”

That’s a much different message than the one coming from House leaders yesterday, when it  looked like the negotiations would be pushed into February. Looks like that eight-hour marathon meeting at the White House Wednesday might have borne some fruit.

The Democrats really need to get a bill passed so that they may move on to other policy items and allow people's frustrations over the health reform efforts to recede. As a result it is not surprising to see them them moving rapidly, as if chased, toward passage of the bill.

A much wiser idea is to take a long hard look at the entire health insurance industry and then work to remedy the situation by taking out the waste and creating new, innovative ideas that would be a benefit for all.
