Rudy Giuliani, Back When He Remembered 9/11
Friday, January 08, 2010 at 12:43 pm
I’m still in shock over former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s comment that “we had no domestic attacks under Bush.” Is it possible that he meant to add “after 9/11″ and slipped up? I don’t know — forgetting to mention 9/11 is not a problem he’s had in the past.
I think Jake Tapper, on Twitter, is on to something when he suggests that Giuliani is one of many conservative who start the clock on the Bush presidency on 9/11. A smart conservative demand from President Obama right now might be that he “start the clock” on his anti-terror policy with the failed Christmas bombing. But that’s not what Giuliani’s doing here — he implies (as many Bush apologists do) that an attack that occurred nine months into the Bush presidency was Bill Clinton’s fault, while an attack that occurred 12 months into the Obama presidency was all Obama’s fault. He’s taking the right amount of flak.

And let me see, didn't Richard Reid happen after 9/11 and happen under W's watch? And isn't that more akin to what happened on Christmas?
And lets ignore what's happened to our allies during that same period (Madrid? London Tube?)…

You guys didn't understand. 9 months into Bush presidency is too early. The government is at its infancy. But… 12 months…. is a pretty long time. In other words it is one year. one year and 9 months are not the same.
Ahmmm, By the way, the other shoe bomber, forgot his name, was during bush presidency right…

And don't forget the 2001 anthrax attacks! That was a post-9/11 “domestic attack” in both senses of the word–the victims and (almost certainly) the perpetrator were American. This kind of selective amnesia by Giuliani et al. is getting really insane…

from the comments I make out that America needs a couple of 9/11, were muslims will slaughter your infants, fire-bomb your children, shoot your children when coming out of a christmas mass like in egypt etc. Ha ha ha ha
You Americans are too good or stupid for your own selves, prepare your children and your grandchildren because they will fight your war!!!!!

What a putz. The arguements that he is making undermine the very foundation of our criminal justice system.
This country has ideals, principals and beliefs. Gulliani like Bush seems to be willing to compromise those ideals so that we can “feel” safer.
A man much wiser and more respected man than Gulliani got it right. “He who would trade liberty for some temporary security, deserves neither liberty nor security.”
The threats we face today are not new or unique. We should remember the wise principals on which this country is founded and not let politicians and pundits who are trying to capture votes and ratings allow to sacrafice those principles.
There is no such thing as complete security. We need to accept that and stop allowing these attention hounds scare us into giving up our freedom, rights, principals and humanity.
The choice is ours, either:
Accept that we have a remote chance of being killed by a terrorist attack.
Accept that we have a remote chance of being killed in a terrorist attack and compromise the core principals that this country has been built on.
I for one do not want to allow terrorist to force me to compromise my principals and change my beliefs, after all, isn't that what they want?

The antrax attacks: an act of domestic terrorism upon several Democratic senators and congressman, not to mention the several postal workers who were killed.
Happened on Bush's watch, although the only suspect the Bushies ever looked at is conveniently dead.
In any event, the revisionist version of the Bush years ALWAYS fails to recount this tragedy.

Giuliani is a moron!! Stephanopoulos isn't much better for not calling him out on it. Is this the future of the Republican party? Palin, Limbaugh and Giuliani? God help us all.

Nobody cares about the “terrorists”. Stop trying to distract us from the real stories which are unemployment and the eroding living-conditions of the middle-class.

One additional thought.
I wish this country fought as hard to protect our rights to trial by jury, freedom and liberties as we do to protect our guns.
We would be such a better country if we would start to chant,
“I'll give you my liberty when you take it from my cold, dead hands!”

And the DC sniper, who was convicted of terrorism charges. And the ricin letters in 2003. And, arguably, many incidents of political violence against abortion providers.

12 months is a long time…but 9 months is not? Bush had a MANDATE from the PEOPLE when he was elected! Right…?
He came in with his spurs on and was ready to get down to business.

George Stephanopoulas is no journalist. I turned off and changed to the Today show and that is where I will remain. I rue the day someone like Diane left.
George is most interested in George.
The truth is another matter.
Shame on him and A B C – What a pick !

Rudy Giuliani… Noun, verb, 9/11… The Italian-Americans have an old joke about Giuliani. Something about how Rudy got rid of the mafia in NYC and then the US Government took over organized crime…
What I can’t figure is after the 8 miserable, mind-numbing years of Bush/Cheney, HOW can ANYONE take Conservatives seriously?

When your record is as bad as the GOP, its understandable you would want to re-write history. Ghouliani should just fade into the oblivion he deserves, I am sure hes made millions milking 9/11 already.

It really reflects a lack of experience of President Obama's, which — it was warned about during the campaign that Candidate Obama didn't have executive experience, he hasn't been an administrator or a manager of anything. http://8acollective.com/scholarship/10-basic-po…
