Kay Bailey HutchisonSen. Hutchison (R-Texas) and Rep. Abercrombie (D-Hawaii) each announced this year that they would resign in 2010 to campaign for governor of their respective home states. They are not alone in their desire to leave Washington — a multitude of senators and congressmen have already announced they will not seek reelection in 2010 — but Abercrombie and Hutchison are true institutions in their states, and their departures are setting up fierce battles to replace them in Congress. (Hutchison has since decided to remain a senator during the gubernatorial campaign and may hold onto her seat if she fails to win the Republican primary.)
