TSA Director Nominee Held Up by Jim DeMint

Sure, airport security rules are being rewritten after the near-explosion of Northwest Airlines Flight 253. And sure, major newspapers are reviewing the current state of airport security to see where the holes are. But during times like these, you want to know that someone is keeping an eye on the real enemy: labor unions.
Yes, the Transportation Security Administration — stalwart guardians of your airline security — doesn’t have an administrator at the moment. At a moment of heightened fears of plane-borne terrorism. The reason TSA exists in the first place. And why’s that?
The post remains vacant because Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., has held up President Barack Obama’s nominee in opposition to the prospect of TSA workers joining a labor union.
Now that is what you call a post-9/11 mindset. Who cares about terrorists when workers might bargain collectively?

Republican obstructionism favored over Airline safety…..Smooth move DeMint. Who did you say you work for again?

Why do they need to join a union in order to do their jobs? DeMint is not holding up anything.

Yes, he is. He's holding up the appointment of the TSA head. That's perfectly clear. From many sources.
And why shouldn't they be allowed to collectively bargain?

Unions are bad for this country because they drive up labor costs and force companies to go overseas and make the government bankrupt (ie California, New York).
