RNC.com Author Compares Obama to Hitler

When the Republican National Committee launched the new version of GOP.com, Zachary Roth noticed that Michael Zak, an author and speaker who argues that the Party of Lincoln deserves more credit for Civil Rights advances, had written the site’s “Heroes” section. Zak maintains an email list which he usually deploys to tell followers about how the GOP had, on a certain day in history, won an under-reported victory for black Americans. Today’s message is different: Zak compares President Obama to Adolf Hitler.
“The Healthcare bill would be Obama’s ‘Enabling Act,’” writes Zak at the top of the email. Down the page, he explains what he means.
History affords many examples of regimes whose motto was “Never let a crisis go to waste.” In 1933, having campaigned for “hope” and “change,” the National Socialist Worker’s Party forced through the German parliament a Law to Remedy the Distress of the People and the Nation, also known as the Enabling Act.
The Enabling Act was, of course, the law the Nazis passed after the Reichstag Fire. Zak has helpfully posted all of this at his blog, but here’s the email:

Sigh. You'd think they'd get tired of being imbeciles, but hey.

“In 1933, having campaigned for 'hope' and 'change,'”
Well, actually, the Nazis campaigned on fixing the economy without specifying how, restoring the German nation to greatness, and anticommunism. This platform seems to have a lot more in common with the Republican Party than the Democratic, if we're going to make that silly comparison.
“The Healthcare bill would be Obama’s ‘Enabling Act,’”
This is just wonderfully ironic, coming from the political party that overwhelmingly supported the USA PATRIOT Act and didn't have any objections to the extraconstitutional powers that the previous administration assigned itself…

Keep pushing a meme like this and it eventually gets some traction with the base. he is one of many Republican activists building it. Fox runs with these themes all the time. This is the kind of filthy but effective rhetoric that Democrats should quietly pursue.

Oh, do we just get to make stuff up now?
OK, then, it's a well-known fact that “Mein Kampf” is German for “compassionate conservatism.” And Adolf Hitler's top priority in office was lowering the top marginal tax rate. And Goebbels professed that the Nazi propaganda machine was “fair and balanced.”
Is this seriously the best the Republicans can do? Pathetic.
