Coburn Insists on Reading of 767-Page Single-Payer Amendment
Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 12:57 pm
Somebody read Sen. Judd Gregg’s (R-N.H.) stalling memo.
Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) is forcing the Senate to read the 767-page single-payer amendment being pushed by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) this week. From The American Spectator:
Typically, Senators offering amendments will ask for unanimous consent to avoid reading the entire meausure, but all it takes is one Senator to object to demand its reading, and Coburn objected to Sanders attempt to dispense with the reading of the amendment.
No word yet whether that speed reader — brought in by House Democrats earlier in the year to blast through a climate change bill (though his services were only needed for a few moments) — is again on call.
