Citing ‘Climategate,’ GOP Leaders Call on EPA to Withdraw Endangerment Finding

Republican lawmakers aren’t about to let this one slide.

Following the “Climategate” scandal, which global warming skeptics say casts doubt on the science behind climate change, four GOP leaders today sent a letter (PDF) to Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson calling on the EPA to withdraw its Endangerment Finding, which would allow the agency to regulate greenhouse gas emissions that have harmful effects on the climate.

The letter, signed by Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) and Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.), argues that because the scientists involved in the scandal “played prominent roles” in some studies that highlighted the dangers of climate change, the EPA must reassess the threat posed by greenhouse gas emissions. The Endangerment Finding came after a 2007 Supreme Court ruling mandated that the EPA determine whether greenhouse gases were a pollutant under the Clean Air Act.

“The EPA’s climate change regulations are based on compromised scientific reports and heavily flawed data,” Barrasso said in a statement. “The EPA must now withdraw all proposed climate change rules and regulations and conduct their own research.”

He and the co-signers did not mention the overwhelming evidence — and broad scientific consensus — that the climate is indeed changing. But they did use some choice words to describe scientists who believe in the dangers of climate change.

“These [hacked] e-mails [at the center of the scandal] betray the true thoughts and motives of many leading climate scientists,” Sensenbrenner said. “It shows a pattern that’s closer to scientific fascism than the scientific method.”

Issa added, “This Administration used flawed science created by a community of bullies to push through ideologically based policies.”

Each of the four co-signers is the ranking Republican on a committee or subcommittee related to environmental issues or government oversight.

Why are we politicizing this? My kid is regularly shown horror videos by Leo Dicaprio telling him that the human species is going to die out. He even came home telling me that only the insects would survive….

Get a grip people…..as humans we have the right to know if we are cooking ourselves if for no other reason than the fear that we are placing into our children!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“He and the co-signers did not mention the overwhelming evidence — and broad scientific consensus — that the climate is indeed changing.” Duh! Read the E-mails. Mann, Jones et al were the concensus and the “peer review” panel. Not to mention some of the authors of the IPCC reports. The computer programmers they used even put their own remarks in the programs about to get the intended results, they were going to have to put garbage in since the compiled data wouldn't work. I'm sorry, but its pretty damaging to the AGW crowd. Good science doesn't create a program with predetermined results.

“global warming skeptics”

Stop calling them skeptics. They are at best contrarians and at worst flat out deniers with a creationist agenda.

The question has never been whether or not global climate change is happening but rather whether or not anthropogenic (human-induced) emissions of one specific “greenhouse gas” – carbon dioxide – is in any way a cause thereof.

Not only has recent research demonstrated that CO2 in the amounts released as the result of human action CANNOT possibly effect any significant global warming (note Lindzen et al in their report on twenty years' worth of ERBE satellite information, published just this summer), but the Climategate scandal revealed by the whistleblower who had released the “FOIA2009.zip” archive to the 'Net on 18 November demonstrates the concerted fraud that is still being peddled by the “Watermelon” alarmists in an effort to support this utterly nonsensical assertion.

The good news is that anthropogenic global warming (AGW) induced by CO2 emissions is not happening, has never happened, cannot happen, and will not ever happen.

The even better news is that honest – skeptical – scientific analysis has publicly triumphed over the “Cargo Cult Science” (see Feynman, 1974) of the AGW alarmists and their dupes.

Now the only people who can or would advance the AGW panic are revealed to be utter bloody liars, and should expect everywhere and for all time to be treated as such.

Hi Dr B, I thought your Mama had taken your computer away.

You seem to have given up your birther cause and now are the voice of climategate.

How does it feel to be on the wrong side of history again?

Just fine. How does it feel to be on the side of plunder, pillage, falsehood, and pure evil, buttmunch?

You describe corporate America well with your projections aimed at me.

I see you are still perversely attracted to certain parts of the male anatomy.

You are probably wetting your pants now that your Bircher friends are taking over CPAC.

It is finally making sense, Birther=Bircher=Dr B.

The only part of your anatomy in which I'm interested, buttmunch, is your neck.

As in where to put the blade of the ax.

Meanwhile, for your enjoyment and everybody else's, see the Climategate Timeline at:

You really interested in getting implicated as an accessory after the fact in a multiple-count felony case of fraud? Hey, go with it. You get on that “side of history” as thoroughly as you can.

Plenty of room for you, too, in the federal prison system.

Dr Booger, are you off your lithium again? You seem to be having your prison and knife fantisies again.
Go change your depends and get back on your meds.

Getting back to the subject at hand, buttmunch:

“Shortly before the Copenhagen summit, the proponents of anthropogenic global warming (AGW) were embarrassed by a whistleblower who put on the Web more than a thousand e-mails either sent from or received at the University of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit, headed by Dr. Phil Jones. The CRU was founded in 1971 with funding from sources including Shell and British Petroleum. It became one of the climate-modeling grant mills supplying tainted data from which the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has concocted its reports.

“Deceitful manipulation of data, concealment or straightforward destruction of inconvenient evidence, vindictive conspiracies to silence critics, are par for the course in all scientific debate. But in displaying all these characteristics, the CRU e-mails graphically undermine the claim of the Warmers that they command the moral as well as scientific high ground. It has been a standard ploy of the Warmers to revile the skeptics as whores of the energy industry, swaddled in munificent grants and with large personal stakes in discrediting AGW. Actually, the precise opposite is true. Billions in funding and research grants sluice into the big climate-modeling enterprises and a vast archipelago of research departments and 'institutes of climate change' across academia. It's where the money is. Skepticism, particularly for a young climatologist or atmospheric physicist, can be a career breaker.”

Put that plastic bag back over your head, buttmunch, and keep re-breathing that CO2. Ten minutes or so and you'll be as dead in fact as you are figuratively.
