It’s All About McChrystal

The House GOP sent a message to reporters this morning linking to this article about the possibility of a 30,000-troop surge in Afghanistan, an effort that will “seek to build a larger Afghan security force, but one that would be considerably smaller than what Gen. McChrystal had wanted.” The GOP take:
Administration To Reject Gen. McChrystal’s Plan For Afghan Army And Police
While no one expects Republicans to block war funding, this argument against President Obama is being pretty well telegraphed: He took too long (“dithered” is the word Dick Cheney used and popularized) making a decision, and he’s not listening to McChrystal. “The president simply needs to be patient,” said Bill Kristol on Fox News Sunday yesterday. “General Petraeus and General McChrystal know what they’re doing. And believe me, no one wants less to send American soldiers into harm’s way for a war that can’t be won than Dave Petraeus or Stan McChrystal, so trust them.”

The question is not, Do Generals Petraeus and McChrystal know what they are doing, for surely they are America's finest, the question is: Do they know (reality test) for whom they are doing it?

Whatever Kristol recommends, 100% chance that it is completely wrong.
