GOP Congressman: Islam Is a ‘Savage Religion’
Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 12:03 pm
Adam Doster of ProgressIllinois reports that Rep. Don Manzullo (R-Ill.) is reacting in a revealing manner to the prospect of the Obama administration moving Guantanamo detainees to a prison his district. Manzullo told a local TV station that the detainees are “driven by some savage religion.”
That would be the same religion that members of the U.S. military practice, to say nothing of about one-fifth of the world’s population. Who knows, there are probably some practitioners of that “savage religion” in Manzullo’s own congressional district!

Illinois is a wonderful place to live. I'm not too familiar with Manzullo's district but having served as the executive director of the Council of Islamic Organizations (a major American Muslim org in Illinois) I do know that Muslims live all over the state. It is dismaying and disheartening to hear that Manzullo may have attack my faith, Islam, in such a way. I am hoping that by not referring to Islam by name (not sure if he did but this report suggests he did not) he is actually suggesting that the warped ideology of terrorists (men and women who actually commit terror versus men and women and children innocently picked up and held in seclusions for years and years in a military prison in Cuba or elsewhere) is not Islam. Is it possible that this is what he meant? I hope so. I'm not sure there is much we can do but pray for him to be more open minded if he indeed was referring to Islam in this horrible manner. God, please open Manzullo's eyes, mind and heart so that he will not fall victim to bigotry. Amen.

Junaid,
Let's hope the fundamentalism prevalent in both our respective beliefs will finally die. The world is fast outgrowing this kind of destructive theological thinking, and is necessary if we want to progress as a species. I laud you for your input.

Manzullo is entitled to his opinion. He is right, bringing these savages to our soil for prosecution is a big mistake. It might invoke more terrorists to come out of their little caves. But that might be a good thing. More targets for our military to take out. Please don't forget this country is at war and these savages are still plotting and planning on how to take out innocent people just like you. I don't have much respect for religions that treat their women like cattle. RELIGION OF SUBMISSION
Amen, BIG DADDY JOHNSON

I think you need to open your eyes. He is very open minded regarding the savages that are going to be prosecuted in our courts. These terrorists should be subject to seclusion for life. We don't want to martyr these animals by execution, ISOLATION, SECLUSION UNTIL THEY DIE.
Since you are or were such a high ranking person in the Coucil of Islamic Organization. Why don't you convince more of your fellow muslims to come out and denounce the fanatics that are hijacking your religion and promoting terror and hatred towards Israel. Get the picture. P.S. Don't you fall victim to bigotry.
Have a great day.

You might want to up the dosage on your meds. If you think the Christian religion is the same, you are using too many magic mushrooms. Time to go back to your tree and monkey around. lol

I think you need to bone up on it's history before making stupid comments trying to pass them off as a jab.
My point here is that both religions have displayed violence throughout recorded history. It goes all the way back to Isaac and Ishmael. Who struck the first blow? Who cares? The time has to come when this kind of backward thinking must end.
So you think it wise to ridicule a little girl? Conservatism at it's best.

It's interesting that the article mentions the religion that members in the US Military practices. Look what happened at Ft. Hood. It is time for this nation to stand up and start treating this like we did back in WW2. Keep attacking us and see what happens. The best thing the good standing muslims can do is to start fighting the fanatics before their entire religion is looked at as, THE RELIGION OF TERROR .

con,
It serves here to let you know that I am a disabled Iraq war vet. When I came home, I came to surprising conclusion, because I thought as you did, once. I realized I have no enemies.
Your obvious lack of knowledge on this subject, in the way of vitriol you spout, makes your position that much more reprehensible. I suppose it's apt to state here that by the upper case treatment you give your last line, that that must be the head you do your thinking with.
If you ever wore a uniform, you didn't learn a thing.
