Fla-Sen: Club for Growth Backs Marco Rubio

Moving ahead with something that political wags had expected for months, the Club for Growth is backing Marco Rubio against Gov. Charlie Crist (R-Fla.) in the contested 2010 primary for Florida’s open U.S. Senate seat.

The Club ended up spending close to $1 million in the just-concluded NY-23 race, with only two months in the field. This is a huge boost for Rubio that confirms sixth months of hype about how it could become the next big stage of the Tea Party-Republican civil war.

Unlike NY-23 where a liberal was chosen by a group of Republican elitists, there will be a primary in Florida. Once a candidate is selected in the primary process there will not be the fracturing as in NY-23 when the conservatives revolted over the liberal in Republican clothing put up by the Republican committee.

Republican elitist——nice euphemism for moderate! It's fascinating to watch you folks slash&burn the GOP to the ground in the interest of ideological extremism. Gonna be interesting to see how y'all fare in FLA, what with the rapidly shifting demography 'n all…

Of course, given the fact that Rubio is supported by Karl Rove and Jeb Bush is “neutral”, and given the fact that Rubio's immigration position is probably quite GWB-like, the idea that he isn't establishment is pretty absurd. (Note also that this is probably yet another example of the TeaParty tools supporting someone whose policies would raise their taxes and reduce their power).
