Radical Cleric Jumps to Wild Conclusions About Ft. Hood Shooting

This is starting to make the veins in my forehead throb. Sarah Posner finds Vision America’s Rick Scarborough untethering himself completely from reality to opine on Maj. Hasan’s murders in Ft. Hood. Here’s what the former pastor of the First Baptist Church of Pearland, Texas, had to say:

We know that Dr. Hasan is a devout Muslim who once told a fellow officer that “Muslims have a right to stand up against the U.S. military.” Clearly, yesterday’s rampage was not motivated by love. Given Hasan’s worldview, it’s probable that he was motivated in part by an animus toward Christians and Jews. Assuming that murder charges are brought against him, will Hasan also be charged with a hate crime?

Just count the leaps in logic. It should be obvious that Scarborough is only barely talking about Hasan. He’s talking about Islam in general, since the basis for his wild-eyed speculations is Hasan’s “worldview,” by which the man means that Hasan is a “devout Muslim.” This is the next stage of the slander. In Scarborough’s view, Hasan isn’t even part of a small cohort of psychopaths who hijack Islam as a pretext for their murderous tendencies. He’s following the tenets of his religion — a religion subscribed to by something like a billion and a half people on this planet.

Conservatives want to bleat about how PC hysteria is inhibiting their right to say racist things about Muslims without criticism. But it’s funny how you never see people like Scarborough referred to as what they are: radical clerics.

One thing about Rick Scarborough is that he is good at drawing false conclusions and falling off the edges of cliffs.

“small cohort of psychopaths who hijack Islam as a pretext for their murderous tendencies”

Really? How many muslims do you know Spencer? Hear from someone living in an Islamic country : Just like every devout Christian prays to convert America into a anti-abortion, anti-gay nation, so does every devout Muslim pray for the elimination America. Exceptions don’t change the rule. The teachings of Quran does not permit Muslims to tolerate non-muslim dominance. The very fact that Allah chose a non-believing nation to be the most powerful nation makes them angry. Please before you go on talking about peaceful religious Muslims, read the Quran. You will be shocked how in the same page murder is denounced as evil while slaughtering of infidels is advocated. There is no moderate or extreme Islam. There is only Islam. And btw in Islamic countries, its the liberals like you who go to noose before anyone else.

The heinous crime committed at Fort Hood was the act of a lone person, just like other mass murderers, serial killers, child rapists etc.Religion or ethnicity has nothing to do with it.
We hear of increasing suicide cases in the military, soldier turning against soldier & other disorders among those returning from combat or involved in an ongoing war. This is what war does to them. This is a sobering moment. Our hearts go out to the grieving families.

This crime was committed by an individual, not a religion. Just like the radical right wing Christians that think killing doctors and other medical personel that provide abortion services to women is OK, but other Christians don't want to be tarred with the same brush- this was a individual and not the whole religion. You can not lay this at Islams door. Not all Muslims want to kill Americans, only those who take to extremes.

Uranidiot- I am not defending terrorists, whether homegrown or otherwise and if you get that from my post then you need some remedial reading classes because your comprehension sucks. Should we say that all Christian's are bad because of the right wing nuts that do stupid stuff? Or is it the ones who are directly responsible for an act? There is no evidence as of yet that this was anything other than a one man assault on innocent people. In the meantime we have nut-jobs out there condemning everyone who may be associated with the religion. Islam is not a violent religion. Some people make it violent. If you can't see that, you are the disgusting one. And as a natural born citizen, I'm not going anywhere.

How many people have been murdered because of a so-called radical Christian (or Jewish) cleric ?

How many “radical” Christian (or Jewish) clerics are inciting people to kill non-Christians and non-Jews, as Muslims have been doing since their religion was founded ?

What do you think happened to Dr Tiller? He was encouraged and abetted by a radical Christian cult which exists all over this country: people who call themselves “pro-life” yet encourage the killing of doctors.
Do you not know of the Christian cult which pickets the funerals of US servicemen killed in Iraq and Afghanistan? They carry signs celebrating and exulting in “God's punishment” on a country which tolerates homosexuals.
McVeigh was connected to radical segments of the so-called 'militia movement', which fomented a race war to 'cleanse' USA and used the CHRISTIAN bible to buttress their theories.

Jim Jones was a Christian minister. Had a huge Christian church
