Many ostensibly courageous red-blooded Americans are so cravenly frightened of the unknown that they immediately begin scapegoating before the blood is even dry. These scapegoaters are acting every bit as cowardly as was the mass shooting yesterday cowardly. Acting, including propagandizing, against innocents is against the interests of this country and against the interests of humanity as a whole. Actually defending yourselves requires understanding a situation before defining it. Speaking and acting rashly runs counter to self-interest.

Immediately after the Oklahoma City bombing of the Murrah Federal Building, the rumors were flying that Iraqi Arabs had been responsible. News programs were even broadcasting this propaganda. Someone was targeting a minority in this country to take the fall. Luckily, it didn't work, and the right-wing extremist faction was exposed as behind the mass murders in Oklahoma City. Good thing, too, because the scapegoating was going to be used as a pretext for starting up military operations against Iraq. Later, of course, such scapegoating by Bush, Cheney, Powell, Rice, Judith Miller, and others did lead to the atrocity that was/is the invasion/occupation of Iraq.

So, Freeping Barney Fifes, if you can, try to keep your premature fear ejaculations to yourself.
