Grassley: Elections No Referendum on Obama

The Iowa Independent reports that Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) today echoed Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele’s comments that yesterday’s election results should not be viewed as a referendum on the Obama presidency. From The Iowa Independent:
“I don’t think it’s a referendum on Obama,” the Republican lawmaker said in a conference call with reporters. “I think it’s a — it’s a referendum on some of his programs — not that his programs are not well-intentioned, but are they working and, in some instances, are they going too far?”
Of course, Republicans fared very well in high-profile statewide elections in New Jersey and Virginia, but the GOP’s favored candidates lost both federal special elections in New York’s 23rd Congressional District and California’s 10th. One can only wonder what prominent Republicans would be saying if they had won either or both of those House seats.

Where would they be if Corzine hadn't done a cruddy job as governor? Talk about a Hobson's choice for voters and a Pyrrhic victory for Crooked Christie. Or if Deeds hadn't foolishly tacked right when America wants a bit more to the left of the GOP's crazy racist wing. Luckily the carpetbagger didn't win in the NY23 and the Tauscher seat in Cali went to a normal guy. The biggest victory the right can claim is that they hate queers more than they love freedom, at least in Maine.
