SARANAC LAKE, N.Y. – Results are trickling in from NY-23, and it’s closer than some Hoffman campaign workers were thinking it would be. The rumors that have everyone buoyed–that Democrat Bill Owens is underperforming in his home base of Clinton County, that National Republican Congressional Committee internal polling has Hoffman up by three points, and that turnout was strong in the Watertown area — mainly Jefferson County — where, until Saturday, Dede Scozzafava was running strongest.

One other sign of optimism — the Republican National Commitee dispatched a top spokesman to speak on a blogger conference call conducted from Hoffman’s headquarters.
