House Republicans Introduce Resolution to Commemorate 9/12 March
Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at 11:10 am
Republican Study Committee Chairman Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.) today introduced — along with 75 other Republicans — a resolution to officially commemorate the 9/12 taxpayer march on Washington. Other sponsors of H.R. 870 include Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa.), and Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.), the party’s whip.
The odds of passage–which would demand that Democrats endorse bill language about “skyrocketing deficits, taxpayer-funded bailouts, pork-barrel projects, burdensome taxes, unaccountable policy czars, command-and-control energy policy, and a government takeover of health care”–seem slim.
The full resolution is after the jump.
RESOLUTION
Expressing gratitude and appreciation to the individuals and families who participated in the Taxpayer March on Washington on September 12, 2009.
Whereas, on September 12, 2009, hundreds of thousands of American patriots, who refuse to sit idly by as the Federal Government advances skyrocketing deficits, taxpayer-funded bailouts, pork-barrel projects, burdensome taxes, unaccountable policy czars, command-and-control energy policy, and a government takeover of health care, came to Washington, DC, to show their disapproval;
Whereas individuals also wanted to convey their displeasure with the future tax increases that will be required to pay for deficit-financed spending;
Whereas these individuals understand that the fundamental American principles of limited government and personal liberty are under direct assault;
Whereas this dedicated group of freedom-loving Americans believe in open, accountable, responsible, constitutionally based government;
Whereas hundreds of buses, multiple caravans of cars from across the country, and many individually chartered flights, as well as thousands of lone-traveling cars and trucks, brought these patriots to Washington, DC, solely for this event;
Whereas these individuals endured considerable personal expense to get to the march, including transportation and lodging expenses, as well as lost wages in many instances;
Whereas estimates of the number of people who peacefully marched from Freedom Plaza to the West Front of the U.S. Capitol on September 12, 2009, range as high as 1,700,000 marchers;
Whereas all 50 States were represented in the march;
Whereas this event is considered to be the largest ever gathering of fiscal conservatives in Washington, DC;
Whereas special accolades are due to the grassroots citizens organizations across the country who helped individuals exercise their constitutionally protected First Amendment rights in the Nation’s capital; and
Whereas when the current trends of government expansion and freedom retrenchment are reversed, it will be due in large part to the efforts of the hundreds of thousands who marched on Washington, DC, on September 12, 2009: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the House of Representatives expresses its gratitude and appreciation to the hundreds of thousands of people who marched on Washington, DC, on September 12, 2009, to show their love of liberty and their grievance with recent government actions.

One wonders whether these same individuals will support a resolution recognizing the recent equality march on Washington, which had just as many, if not more, participants.
What am I saying? Of course they won't.

Remarkably restrained in sticking to 1.7 million rather than 2 million attendees — or 12 billion, for that matter.

Color me unimpressed. (And unsurprised.)
Raw meat for what remains of their base. Good luck with that.

Those that didn't march? Not patriots.
That's right – not patriots. Do your socialist ears not work?
Unless you watched the march on FOX News. That also makes you a patriot. You're a real American patriot just by tuning in.

This is what republicans waste their time on? With all the important issues to be dealt with, they waste time on this nonsense? And they wonder why they've been marginalized to such an extreme? When they grow up and start doing their jobs, maybe, just maybe we can take them seriously.

A couple of items that were mistakenly left out of the above resolution:
Whereas contrary to all available evidence Glenn Beck is not suffering from delusional paranoia;
Whereas Fox News is the most fairest and balancedest news network ever;
Now we know what Republicans were doing instead of offering their alternative health care plan.

Oh yes, PLEASE keep proposing these resolutions, Republicans! Keep Price and, even better, Bachmann and King out front as your most visible party spokespersons! Most normal Americans will hear and see them and be repulsed, as they should be. And they'll see what “important” matters the Republicans focus on, rather than real solutions to people's real problems like exploding health care costs, unemployment and job insecurity, and more.
Maybe those eleventy billion nutjobs will put the GOP back in power to drown the government in the toilet, like Grover Norquist wanted. (I mean, government can't do ANYTHING right, you know, like rural electrification that allows the rural folks to communicate with the rest of the world.) Then the GOP can get rid of the liberal Marxist socialist communist fascist Muslim-loving anti-Americans that comprise the Democratic party!

Well said! Is this what the Republicans waste their time with? Why isn't he coming up to a healthcare solution since all Republicans vote down all the other suggestions! How bout the “millions” of gay right activist who marched a week ago? They were just as many of them who “refuse to sit idly by as the” gvt. denies them of their basic rights. Will they and their buses, planes, and other forms of transportation get the recongnition deserved?

As one of the million and a half 9/12 marchers the facts were never reported. With the exception of about 2 dozen signs demeaning our government and our president the march was attended by all races, creeds, and classes including families from all over the United States. Hotels were full, there was no violence and no police presence. I carries a sign supporting our troops and opposing health care which I feel is essentially welfare paid for by the working classes. As yet, there is no figure from the CBO, other than a guesstimate on a partial plan, which would let Americans know what National Health care would cost. 99% of Republicans have been kept out of the debate, having all their plans rejected–it's no wonder they are trying to record the outrage of 70% of the American people who do not want national health care.

The one and a half million figure was broadcasted on CBS the day of the march. Police at the scene compared the number with that of Obama's inauguration and told us there were one and a half million. My driver, ex Turkish army special ops brought over by the FBI after 9/11, whose company is under contract with the Secret Service, Congress and the Senate also put the number at one and a half million. Other facts can be corroborated by doing standard research, not just taking one person's word or that of a single group–weigh and measure.
