This just released from the NATO command in Afghanistan:
Two International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) helicopters were involved in what was believed to be a mid-air collision in southern Afghanistan this morning.
Four ISAF service members were killed and two others injured in the incident. The incident is currently being investigated, but it is confirmed that hostile fire was not involved.
U.S. spokesman Colonel Wayne Shanks, confirms the four ISAF service members were from the U.S.
Update, 8:26 a.m.:
Another early-morning update from ISAF. It’s grim.
Today an International Security Joint Force helicopter went down due to unconfirmed reasons in western Afghanistan, and casualties from this incident have been verified. The cause is not believed to be from enemy action.
Seven U.S. service members and three U.S. civilians were killed. Those injured include 14 Afghan service members, 11 U.S. service members and one U.S. civilian.
Update 2: To be clearer, the two helo incidents are unrelated.
