NY-23: Scozzafava Photo-Op Goes Horribly Wrong

By
Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 1:30 pm

Michael Patrick Leahy, the Tea Party activist who has been going after NY-23 GOP candidate Dede Scozzafava with hammer and tongs, produces this photo of the candidate stumping today outside of one of Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman’s offices. Little-known fact: There are lots of campaign workers, and signs, in such offices, ready to be deployed.

I believe unless the Democrat gets a majority there will be a run-off between the top 2? Since there is absolutely no discernible difference between Dede and 85% of the Dems in Congress having an “R” by her name is pretty meaningless. If she had been in the house this year she would have been the ONLY Republican congress person who voted FOR the stimulus. And she is probably going to jump to the Dems once elected (she has avoided answering that question) so AGAIN, what good would it be to put her in office versus a Dem. No difference. The only person with a clear difference in policy is Doug Hoffman.

I agree Owens will probably win this one, but that's not the conservatives fault. The GOP is the way here, and Scozzafava should drop out of the race since she's taking votes from Hoffman.

Keep shirinking that tent–what used to be a “big” tent is looking more and more like a pup tent!

We welcomed Arlen Spector and we will welcome Olympia Snowe when y'all are finished beating her up, too. We'll take this congressional seat too since y'all are feeding on yourselves!

As a conservative – I'm well aware that this “tussle” within the GOP will likely give the election to Owens. I hope that happens. The GOP and conservatives have NOTHING in common. This should serve as a wake up call to the RNC that they had better start listening to their BASE – and provide the candidates that WE want and not the candidates that the RNC wants us to have.

This is a warning. And to those Repubs that think this is just stupid – to hand the election to a democrat – it only shows how narrowly you view your politics. If a candidate has an 'R' in front of their name , they should get the vote. WAKE UP! When the lines between 'R' and 'D' become as fuzzy as they are now , we must FORCE our representatives to understand that we see how they're trying to manipulate their constituents ( as in the last election w/ McLame) and we are now suffering the consequences with our messiah-in-cheif that currently holds the white house.

This nonsense that liberals spew about WMDs is really getting old. If I may present a parable–let's imagine 2 federal agents are assigned by their boss to go to San Quentin to pick up Charles Manson and bring him to Washington. One agent is conservatlive, the other liberal. While they are on the way, Charles Manson somehow escapes, so that when the federal agents arrive at his cell, they find it empty. The conservative agent would be very concerned, and would justifiably worry about where Manson went and where he might turn up next. The liberal, on the other hand, would just say, “This is just proof that Charles Manson never existed, and it was a total waste of time to send me here”.

Actually, The Peace Implementation Council (group of 55 nations) is still trying to work out what the hell to do there. Things are getting worse there, not better…14 years after the 'peace accords' were signed. Try another tact, that one was epic fail.

Interesting parable, but not applicable to this discussion.

More interesting and appropriate would be as follows:

A conservative and a liberal correction officer are assigned to the same cell block. The conservative correction officer sneaks in a can of pepper spray to an inmate with the understanding that he is going to use it on another inmate that neither of them like. The inmate uses the pepper spray on a thrid inmate that he dislikes more than the one he had agreed to use it on with the conservative guard. The conservative guard says nothing at the time.

Fourteen years later the conservative guard demands that the inmate’s cell be shaken down to search for contraband. The liberal says that we’ve had inspectors in his cell regularly and there has been no sign of contraband, yes, the inmate tends to boast but there is no evidence that he has the ability to back up his boasting. When the liberal points this out, the conservative says that there is a pit bull attacked a worker at a dog pound and the inmate used pepper spray 14 years prior and he thinks that the inmate may have trained the pit bull. When the liberal says that there was no evidence of any relationship between these incidents the conservative calls the liberal a commie pig.

Leaked portions of Iraq’s “Full, Final and Complete” disclosure of the sources for its weapons programs shows that thiodiglycol, a substance needed to manufacture mustard gas, was among the chemical precursors provided to Iraq from US companies such as Alcolac International and Phillips. Both companies have since undergone reorganization and Phillips, once a subsidiary of Phillips Petroleum is now part of ConocoPhillips, an American oil and energy company, while Alcolac International has since dissolved and reformed as Alcolac Inc.”

The major difference is that we went into the former Yugoslavia when the actual killing was taking place as opposed to 14 years after the fact in Iraq. Our response in Iraq would be a bit like the ambulance showing up to administer medical care 14 years after the patient has died.

Well let's see here.

First, you are not interested in how many innocent civilians are killed in an illegal war against a people that did nothing to the United States and posed absolutely no threat to our interests? How many times have you cried on the internet about iraqi civilians killed in iraq? I imagine that's one of your go to liberal talking points.

Second, We still have soldiers in Kosovo and Bosnia, and they will be there forever. If we leave, the war will start again. Kosovo is a completely dependent society that has no ability to sustain itself outside the foreign aid they are getting from our, and other NATO forces. Good argument though. Except the part about you being wrong.

The US is one of many countries that were selling Hussein weapons, and we accounted for less than 1%. And yes, others were selling him gas as well. And I don’t recall Reagan working for Phillips when he was president, so how exactly did he sell the goods to Hussein? And how would all that have happened with democratic majorities in the house and senate?

So under your parties nose, Reagan personally sold WMDs to Hussein, or at least the ones he used to gas the Kurds? That’s like saying under Wilson Winchester sold cartridges to Austria which in turn were used to assassinate Franz Ferdinand – meaning Woodrow Wilson himself sold the bullet that killed Ferdinand. No wonder there are so many liberals, they take morons of all sizes, shapes and lack of intellect.

As long as you have other people’s money to spend.

Comment posted October 22, 2009 @ 12:44 pm

Oh, so a guy who used gas on his own people, as well as the Iranians and said he had the stuff again was not to be taken seriously because liberals said so? He admitted after capture that he wanted the world to believe that iraq had WMDs, hence the reason that the everyone, outside of the local coffee shop, believed him.

I always wonder who the morons are who do things like protest outside Marine Recruiting Stations in Berkely, and by God I think I've found one.

And for the record, I've never met a single person who calls themselves ditto heads. If you removed yourself from your perpetual liberal echo chamber you might realize that yourself. But that would probably cause too much effort.

I like how the weepiness here about civilian Serbian deaths makes no mention of the Kosovar civilian death PREVENTED by the bombing. I must say, you don't have one leg to stand on.

*Did you know we still have troops in Japan and Germany? If Nato left Western Europe, the war might start again! Or, does that logic only hold with regard to a neutered Serbia, with a new, non-nationalist government and the former leaders either dead or in prison?

It's not a slam-dunk seat for the GOP. But the disarray and internal (now external) feuding in the GOP is going to lose House seats when they sorely need to gain seats in 2010. The GOP self-destruction continues.

Granted, the Dems don't deserve to win anything. They have the worst leadership and lack the killer-instinct to fight and win – even with a mandate and majority.

But the GOP just loves to throw it away these days. It's a depressed party.

Your parable is also interesting, my friend (we CAN call each other friends even though we’re on opposite sides of the political spectrum, can’t we?). However, there are flaws in your parable as well. First, despite how many years ago the can of pepper spray was obtained, there are CURRENTLY several other correction officers in the unit, correction officers in other units, the warden of this particular prison, as well as wardens of several other prisons who have currently seen, or claimed to have seen, the pepper spray. In fact, the outgoing, much beloved by the liberal guards, warden warned the incoming, EEEEVILLLL new warden about the CURRENT presence of the pepper spray. While it IS true that the prisoner’s cell was shaken down on several occasions, it was always done so at the direction of the prisoner, who was able to tell the liberal correction officers where they could and could not look. When the correction officers–SURPRISE!!–couldn’t find the pepper spray, they announced the success of their search, said there was no more need to search further, and that everything was based on lies told by the new warden.

Instead of being a prolific hater, pick an issue, contemplate the viable alternatives and offer a sensible solution. Unfortunately, you can't, if you follow the ridiculous, control freak policies of the current administration. Don't you even wonder why President Obama's approval ratings have gone down faster than any President since polls have been taken? What’s more telling is that they’ve continued to plummet while he has 98% of the media in love with him. Even equally delusional Jimmy Carter’s, polls didn't tumble as fast as Obama's.

ET
Comment posted October 24, 2009 @ 2:33 pm

pcisbs –

The only approval rating that mattered was in November. I think with a rating as high as Obama had, there is only one way to go after an historic election as things cool down and our leaders get back to working on our problems which are substantial.

Bailouts for the banks and the insurance companies began before Obama took office. Do not conflate the decisions and policies of the previous misadministration with those of our new president. These were decisions required for near term stability. This wasn't Obama's sole assesment – it was Bush appointee Ben Bernanke. If capitalism is so inflexible and rigid that it can't handle a temporary intervention to save its life it probably deserves to be broken.

This ridiculous myth of the free market flies in the face of thermodynamic reality as no known natural system operates without constraints. To think you could construct a bubble with no rules in a world where we bump up against optimal limits all the time is sheer ludicrous ignorance. 30 years of debt financed Reaganomics is proof enough of that.

We must now recover from this mistake. The crawl back will be arduous. People will ask, “where are the jobs”? I can tell you where they aren't – crappy service sector and manufacturing dependent on cheap energy, easy credit and urban sprawl. These jobs aren't coming back you might as well man up and accept it. Obama has it right for investing stimulus funds into infrastructure, science and technology. Those jobs won't spring up overnight either, but we have been able to slow the rate of loss as the economy contracts. If you want to help the unemployed you can start by lobbying your republican colleagues to extend the benefits they've been blocking.

It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. The very root of your writing whilst appearing agreeable in the beginning, did not really sit well with me after some time. Somewhere within the sentences you actually managed to make me a believer unfortunately just for a very short while. I still have a problem with your jumps in logic and one might do well to fill in all those breaks. If you can accomplish that, I could definitely end up being amazed.
