Dems Hope to Strip Insurers of Anti-Trust Exemption
Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at 11:52 am
From the Twittering fingers of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.):
Leahy, Schumer and I will announce today @ 11:30am ET that we will strip the health ins industry of its exemption from antritrust laws
It’s not news that Democratic leaders want to eliminate the anti-trust exemption enjoyed by insurance companies for more than 60 years. The lawmakers charge that the companies are abusing that privilege to fix prices, rig bids and allocate markets at the expense of patients.
But now it’s clear that they want to include the change as part of their health reform plans this year. That is, assuming they consider this a part of reform.
