NY-23: Hoffman Calls on Scozzafava to Leave the Race

[UPDATE: An earlier version of this post mis-stated the title of Doug Hoffman's spokesman, Rob Ryan.]

The campaign of Doug Hoffman, the Conservative Party’s candidate in New York’s 23rd Congressional District, is clearly enjoying the bar fight between The Weekly Standard and GOP candidate Dede Scozzafava. After seeing that Scozzafava’s campaign released private emails between a spokesman and the Standard’s reporter John McCormick, a Hoffman spokesman called on the troubled Republican candidate to hang it up.

“It’s obvious that with every passing day and with every drop in the polls, Dede Scozzafava is becoming more desperate,” said Hoffman’s senior communications adviser Rob Ryan. “The best thing she can do for her own career and for the Republican Party is to drop out of this race.”

Ryan was flabbergasted by the news that Scozzafava called police to question McCormack after the reporter followed her and asked her tough questions. “John was on the trail with Doug today,” said Ryan. “From everything I hear, he’s the most mild-mannered guy around. If any police investigation needs to take place, it should be of Dede Scozzafava, for impersonating a Republican.”

I love that comment 'Impersonating a Republican” that is a little obvious from before but really fits this piece. I was laughing this morning reading that stuff about her calling the cops. Come on Dede time to go and let someone who is for the actual majority take the seat.

To the folks who think Doug Hoffman can't win, I have news for you. He is in it to win it.

He is very popular and I predict he will be ahead of Dede in the next poll release.

We are very excited to have him running and he is a Republican by the way.

He is very capable of winning this election. He is gaining more and more support every day. He may very well surprise a lot of people.

The Republican Party better pay attention. There is so much energy and support for this Conservative Republican from our district as well as from all over the nation.

A new day is dawning, thanks to Conservatives and Tea Party supporters who are refusing to support RINO's any more. This election will send a clear message and a BIG wake up call to the Republican Party. RINO's will no longer be tolerated and they will lose elections every time! Mark my words.

I just contributed to Doug Hoffman's campaign. I am from Florida, former New Yorker, and I have had enough. GO DOUG HOFFMAN!!!

I'm in California and I've contributed to the Hoffman campaign, too. Perhaps this can be a “learning experience” for the Republican party. Here's hoping anyway.

So much for your prediction. Not only is he not ahead of Dede, he's mired in 3rd place and the Democrat is leading. Again, thank you for handing us this seat!

If I'm always voting against somebody, or something, nobody will know what, or whom i would vote for. The lessor of two evils argument has finally run out of gas. The lessor of two evils is still EVIL. If Republicans do not refuel, they will be found on the side of the road with the Whigs!

The latest poll, albeit paid for by the rightwing Club For Growth, has Hoffman leading, 31-27-20…

a little more effort by conservatives in this red district and he will clinch this seat.

Once elected, he'll caucus with Republicans, so it's not like it's a lost vote or anything. NY'ers will have someone voting against tax hikes and other liberal policies that Scozzafava favas, i mean favors

Thank you, Mr. Hoffman, for helping to defeat a Republican. Can't believe that NY-23, a district that didn't even vote for Roosevelt, will finally go to a Democrat.
