Greg Craig: I’m Not Resigning

White House Counsel Gregory Craig, a longtime Washington insider who’s faced mounting criticism for his role in the Obama administration’s plans to close the Guantanamo Bay prison, said on Friday that he has no plans to resign from his post.

“I have no plans to leave whatsoever,” Craig told David Ingram at the National Law Journal. Describing his relationship with President Obama as “excellent,” Craig dismissed the recent reports, which included one from The Washington Post and ProPublica in late September that three administration officials said that Craig would be leaving his job soon.

Even if he has no interest in leaving, Craig clearly has some opponents within the administration, since they’ve been leaking the idea to the press for months now. In early August, The Wall Street Journal reported that administration officials were “holding discussions” that could result in Craig’s departure.

Greg Craig has been a model at every level for our generation, the Baby Boomers
He was a the forefront of inner city school reform, in confronting apartheid in So. Africa, in giving shape to the Anti-Vietnam Student protest to get our troops out of Vietnam, and being the admirable father/husband of 5 children. Service, Fairness, Educational Excellence were his values, what he brought to the White House Counsel position. We can each be grateful to Greg that he has given so much to his community and country.
